Hi, this is my first post as i would like some advice.

im 19 and ive only been diabetic for three years but i keep reading things and hearing doctors tell me to keep an eye on my feet. That is all they have told me. Recently i have noticed some sore red marks on my feet and im not sure if this is something to do with diabetes or its because im on my feet a lot due to my job, or is it to do with un comfy shoes?

Also do i need to buy any 'special' shoes? im on a low wage so i usually buy cheap primark shoes.

Someone please help!

Hi Aaron,
I'm a type 2, quite new to this website, there are lots of people that will give to advise.
Your diabetic nurse should check you feet each year.
I can understand money may be tight, but please, please make sure you get some comfortable shoes, it is so important.

I would go and see the nurse and doctor about the red sore marks before they turn into something more serious

Arron,
Andrew is right. Please find time tomorrow to phone the gp and ask to see the diabetic nurse or doctor.
Do come back and let us know how you get on.

If you're at all concerned about your feet please speak to your gp or diabetes team, its better to err on the side of caution rather than brush it off as nothing and it turn into a problem. I haven't been told to buy any special shoes but have been advised that my shoes must fit properly i.e not rubbing anywhere and that I should periodically check the condition of my shoes. Good luck at the doctors, let us know how you get on

don't take ANY risks with feet. one of the first things to get you into trouble if you are diabetic. constant struggle with mine. Numb. Cold. Swollen. Cuts. Even broke a couple of toes and did not realise for months...seriously, go get this seen to.
