Hello folks I know it's been awhile so I figured I check back in with an update. I have been in a bit of a slump with my mom having some health issues from her diabetes and having to help her out. Its been stressful and I have not done super well with working on my A1c which has been stubbornly in the 8.3-8.6 range.

The good (great) news is I finally got my insurance to approve me for Mounjaro so I am super excited. I have been on Metformin for years which helped some with my sugar but hasn't really helped me lose any weight. Meanwhile I have had to deal with circulation issues and side effects (slow healing cuts, tingly feet, cellulitis) and uncomfortable lymphedema for the past 7 years or so. Dont get me started on insurance and healthcare here...

Anyways I am super excited to get started and get my diabetes under control and maybe drop some weight to help my legs out a bit. I have a few friends who use this or Ozyempic and they all seemed to do well with it (one went down 4 dress sizes). Fingers crossed it helps me the same way!

Anyone here have any experience or advice for a newbie to this drug?

I’m so happy that you’ve finally got your Mounjaro. I have been taking drugs from the same group of meds for two years now, initially Victoza then I had to change to Rybelsus a tablet version when Victoza became unavailable in the UK. I’ve had steady weight loss on both with no side effects. Fingers crossed you do well on it too. Let us know how you get on.

Edited for typo.

Super news - do keep us posted how you get on. Your experiences will be helpful to many.
I took my first shot Monday and I didn't notice anything much until Tuesday. I definitely feel a bit nauseous and seem to feel full really quick. Like where I can't eat but maybe half of what I could before (and still be hungry). The shot itself was a bit painful but I read to let it warm up before you use it so I know better next time.

Haven't checked sugar yet will probably check tomorrow morning to see where I'm at. With the not being able to eat much I am hoping to see the number of scale creep down but holding off for a week to weigh myself so I dont go crazy.

I'm on the lowest dose 2.5 now but I guess they will raise it each month so hoping this doesn't get too uncomfortable.

Hiya, I have been on MJ for 26 weeks now - it's a game changer! I have gradually increased to the 10mg pen. In that time I have lost 34lbs (15kg) and gone down two sizes in trousers. My HbA1c has gone down from 80 to 41! My morning readings are 4-6 instead of 9-12+. I have come off insulin all together but still on Metformin and Jardiance.

I've had a few side effects like nausea (bit like morning sickness) - I drink mint tea; gone off some foods and drinks; get indigestion or sulphur burps; been sick at night a couple of times if I have eaten the wrong foods (greasy) or too late in the evening. Sometimes have to get to the loo quite promptly but never had an accident :wideyed::facepalm:. Essentially nothing that I can't cope with.

All in all it has been a wonder-drug - good luck, I hope it works for you!

Editing with a few tips: Mounjaro is a long term journey - not a quick fix so don't get down if you don't lose 3 stone in 3 weeks (like some people seem to do)! Drink lots of fluids. Keep a check on your calories if you are not losing - use the TDEE Calculator to see how many calories your body needs and check you are in a deficit but not too much under or that will stall you too.

Ok folks time for an update. I am slowly getting more used to the drug a little less nausea and feeling kinda "ick" with it and I feel like I can eat a bit more (maybe not a good thing).

My fasting sugar was 171 this morning down from 185-190 before starting and I'm down 7 lbs so that's promising. I was hoping to be further along but my doctor seems happy and said he will be increasing the dose next month to 5ml so maybe that will help move this along a bit faster.

That’s good news on all aspects, slow but sure. Nice to have an update. Thank you.

Glad you got to try Mounjaro. I've been on it since July 2024, and am currently on 10mg. I've only lost a stone as the appetite suppression wore off for me after about 3 months. Along with Glimepiride it's keeping my fasting readings in the 6s and 7s, so I'm more than happy with it.

Hello everyon! I’m a total beginner to all this stuff so please bear with me…
I was initially on just Metformin but after a while I was started on Forxiga and to occasionally take Gliclazide if my BM was too high. I have now been given a Px for Mounjaro (2.5) but I have been told two different things, and I’m getting rather confused by it all.
Do I have to continue with the Metformin and Forxiga when taking the Mounjaro? I have never had a Hypo, but plenty of Hypers, but I’m a bit worried about the combination of all of these will induce a hypo. I can’t use a BM monitor because my dogs decided to have a bit of a chew and I’m embarrassed to admit that to the Dr’s!!
Does anyone have any experience with taking all of these things?
Thanks in advance

Hi @DeB200 & welcome to the forum :)

Forum rules mean that we can’t advise on medication and what you can take with what, the best thing is to speak to your GP or the HCP who deals with your diabetes meds. They know your medical history etc and are best placed to advise you on this.

lol at your dog chewing your BG tester, can you just tell your GP it’s broken? Having a way to test is the best way to know what your BG are up to. A lot of us T2 have to self fund and don’t get meters & strips on prescription, if you can’t get a new meter from your GP perhaps you could try self funding?

I use a Tee2 metre and from memory the strips are about £10 for 50 strips, one of members @Rachox has some information on a few meters, I’ve tagged her for you and hopefully she will post the info for you

Hi @DeB200 , thanks for the tag @lovinglife , here’s some info with links for UK meters, and to be clear I have no commercial connections with any of the companies mentioned.

HOME HEALTH have the Gluco Navii, which is a fairly new model and seems to be getting good reviews.

https://homehealth-uk.com/all-produ...ose-meter-test-strips-choose-mmol-l-or-mg-dl/

Links to the strips for future orders:

https://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/glucose-navii-blood-glucose-test-strips-50-strip-pack/

Then they sell the older SD Code Free, details to be found here!

https://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/codefree-blood-glucose-monitoring-system-mmoll-or-mgdl/

SPIRIT HEALTHCARE have a meter called the Tee2 + which is quite popular:

https://shop.spirit-health.co.uk/co...e2-blood-glucose-meter?variant=19264017268793

The strips are to be found here:

https://shop.spirit-health.co.uk/co...py-of-tee2-test-strips?variant=19264017367097

If there is a choice of units of measurement then ‘mmol/L’ are the standard units in the UK, ‘mg/dl’ in the US, other countries may vary.

Don’t forget to check the box if you have diabetes so you can buy VAT free. (for all meters and strips)

If you’d like to try a free 15 day trial of the Freestyle LIBRE 2 plus follow this link:

Sampling | Diabetes Care | Abbott

Dexcom also offer a free trial of their Dexcom one + here

The Dexcom ONE+ CGM (Continuous Glucose Montoring) system | Dexcom

Quick update since I have been on the 5ml dose for a few weeks now. My fasting sugar is down to the mid 160s so making some progress there.
Unfortunately I am only 13 lbs down over almost 2 months which I feel like is slow. I am feeling more normal now but the appetite suppression seems to have worn off a little bit which is disappointing. I was hoping for more results with the weight loss so hoping the next dose up (7.5ml) will speed that up a bit since my doc is telling me the best thing I can do to get my sugar down is lose the weight.

slower weight loss imo is better more likely to keep it off that way :) don't be disheartened not losing as quick as you would like to of. Slow and steady will win the race <3 best wishes
