Turning into a big struggle at the moment, I'm always scoring high after meals and this is a big concern, I just dont feel I can enjoy myself anymore. All i ask is to live a happy healthy long life thats all. No complications. I just want my diabetes to be under good control. It has practically ruined my life.

I am a T2 and not a T1 so I'm not really in a position to advise you, but from the little I do know about TI's you have already identified your problem. It is what you are eating and maybe even the quantity.
I would hazard a guess that if your diet is high in carbs then you will need more insulin to cope with the load.
I hope someone soon comes along that can guide you better, but I do consider you do need to have a good look at your diet for healthy and happier living.

Hi Matthew

Don't panic you can still enjoy yourself!

It can take a while to get the insulin right for your lifestyle - I'm assuming you're fairly newly diagnosed. I don't know what insulin you are taking so its difficult to give advice.

My son is on levemir and novorapid. We carb count so we can give him the right amount of insulin to cover his needs but the amount differs depending on the time of day and how many carbs he has eaten. This works well for us and means that he can still have a sweetie or a chocolate biscuit (for pudding) if he wants to.

You should go and see your DSN for a bit of advice if you're continually high 2 hours after eating. Carb counting is probably the way to go.

Good luck

Annette

i have been a diabetic for 15 years now and over the past 2 years have been trying to sort out all my highs and lows. do you often find you have a low a few hours after eating if you try and do bigger doses of rapid insulin?
if you do a tip i recently got from a carb couning specialist is with dinner if you find yourself having a lot of carbs like a big bowl of pasta try and do half your injection before you eat and the other half about 30 mins later that way you will controll the highs and stop the lows. other than that i would just recommend carb counting. theres a great book called carbs and cals which you can get on amazon for about £7 its got photo guides on almost every food including alcohol puddings takeaways and can give you a better guide on how much insulin to take with your meal. its given me a lot of freedom and you dont have to limit yourself to what you can and cant eat! ask your gp, diabetic nurse or consultant and they may be able to arrange an appointment with a specialist to help. keep smiling! it wont last forever, im living proof :p
