My weight started to go up due to my last dietitian visit, i thought i was doing well with what i was eating to find i had put on weight i was also drinking a lot of alcohol, now I'm trying to put things right by introducing a protein shake to my diet. :)

In my case I can rely on putting on weight if I go back to drinking and to lose weight if I don't. It is my tipping point. Obviously my nurse has told me not to drink but It seems that now and again I am unable to stop myself.

You have to have something that you enjoy in my opinion.

I'm exactly the same Squire, if I drink I put on weight, if I stop drinking for a month I lose weight and lose my bloated belly. It should be a no brainer right, stop drinking. Easy to say, not so easy to do and I have been struggling this last month ...

Cue for a song ..............

I could while away the hours, conferrin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the rain.
And my head I'd be scratchin' while
my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Hi. What was the diet your dietician recommended. I hope it wasn't the out-dated NHS mantra which is bad news for diabetics? Perhaps I'm a pessimist and the advice was good. Alcohol in sensible quantities isn't a problem for diabetics, but food can be. Keep the carbs at least below 200gm/day and low-GI and get hold of a glucose meter if you haven't already got one to manage your blood sugar. Note that eating fat doesn't make you fat but excess carbs will and this is where much of the dietary advice provided by the 'experts' can be ill advised if you have a weight and/or blood sugar problem.
