Hi

Just thought I would pass on my good news to the forum and just see what are the general thoughts about levels etc

I was diagnosed early April as being a type 2 diabetic with an HBA1c reading of 88 and i was 19 stone 6 lb

In the 3 months since I have been on a very low carb diet, probably maximumm 20g carbs per day and have lost just on 3 stone up until 6th July

I had my HBA1c blood test last Monday and the Practice nurse rang me this afternoon to tell me my reading was 35 and how good that was.

She said that was a reading of 5.5 on the old scale

I didnt get the opportunity to be diet controlled but only take 1 x 500mg Metformin per day

Will I still need to carry on taking the metformin or is it possible to just control via diet

Thanks

Rich

Hi. That is excellent and shows how going low-carb can help reduce weight when needed. I wouldn't worry about the one Met tablet either way. They help with insulin resistance when you are overweight but you are now tacking that. It's up to you? The drug is very safe with few side effects but you might want to try without it for a while and check your sugars with a meter. Do discuss it with the GP/nurse as it's quite reasonable to go without meds if diet works.
