Good afternoon all,
Before I start I'd like to say thank you to all the members who take the time to post such a mine of information on what is such a wide and varied condition! I have been lurking for a few weeks and feel much more in control now with the help of this forum.
I initially went to see my doc about some boils on my side that hadn't healed after many months and he sent me for a blood test. Two days later he phoned to advise that my HBA1C level was 69 and my glucose 8.1 and said he was concerned about type 2. He then sent me for a fasting blood test and those results came back with HBA1C at 82 and glucose of 13.9 which he said confirmed it.
I had an appointment with the diabetes doctor [our diabetes nurse is on sabbatical lol] the following week and he was lovely. Not too scary, but not much help in the diet department [recommended more home cooking, less convenience food and that was it]. I am taking 2 x 500 mg Metformin now after two weeks of only one tablet. I was suffering from "metformin belly" for a while!
I have an appointment with the dietician next Tuesday but in the meantime have been trying to reduce / cut out carbs where I can and follow the LCHF guidelines from here.
I purchased the CodeFree monitor which arrived yesterday and finally got the hang of it this morning lol. My level first thing was 7.7 and before eating my somewhat late breakfast half an hour ago it was 4.7
I have lost 5lbs in weight so far and still have a long way to go but feel with the help of the forum and eating to my meter this will be achieved in the long term.
Onwards and downwards to all!
BTW - can anyone tell me if it is possible to change my user name please? I didn't realise my name would come through on the forum when I first signed up. Many thanks
