Morning all

Tomorrow I’m having a three month HbA1c after being diagnosed with type 2 in mid May this year with HbA1c of 58, down to 53 on 1 June. My BS have been very good since mid June usually between 5.2 and 5.7. I’m then due a review with the diabetic nurse a week later. I’m following a keto diet and have lost 2 stone 10lb since May.

Basically I was wondering what happens at a diabetic review, is it dependent on my blood results as I really don’t want to go on meds unless absolutely necessary. I’m hoping my HbA1c will have come down even further.

What are peoples experiences of diabetic reviews?

TIA

In my experience, what happens at a diabetes review is more dependent of the person the other side of the desk than the patient and their results.
I take it as an opportunity to get my results (if I haven't already got them from my online records), ask whatever questions I have (but don't always expect answers) and let the other person tick their boxes.

My type 2 reviews, with the diabetic nurse following a blood draw the week before, consist of them checking that I know my current HbA1c, they do BP, weight, foot check (both pulses and feeling), checking any meds i’m on suit me still. If meds are mentioned for you, remember it is your choice what to take if anything, but my guess is your HbA1c will have dropped further so they may not suggest meds for your diabetes at all.
Sometimes there is some general chat about how I’m feeling, diet and exercise but not always.

Edit to add, how rude of me, not to congratulate you on your progress so far! Very well done @JER1507 !

Thank you! I’m happy with with my progress so far and the weight loss is secondary bonus to my lifestyle change! I see my online results too so I will be forearmed when I see the nurse. It’s all new to me so thank you for your replies much appreciated. X

Hi. Congrats. You appear to be doing everything right. As another poster has said so much depends on the nurse/GP dealing with you. I suspect any meds may not be needed. Don't allow yourself to be forced to start statins; make sure you have had your lipids checked as any decision should be based on those results. You will have your feet checked for pulse and any neuropathy. Before you leave agree when your next review will be and any blood tests setup. Get yourself added to the surgery online system if you aren't already on it.
