Hi everyone....
Well my endo app wasn't what I expected. Yes I have been lowering my insulin because I have gained weight, but as I am still producing insulin I thought this is the best time to try fiddle around a bit and see what works for me and my lifestyle. I asked if I could change to a new insulin nova ... something can't remember and a half pen too. So I could have choice and also administer smaller doses while I try the exercise and the lchf diet as well to see how we go. He basically wrote me off and said it costs money you don't take your medicine and that was my choice. My dn was there she was great jumping in etc. I had so many questions to ask him had been excited about the appointment and I didn't lie. As I so easily could of said I'm taking the insulin as prescribed. He didn't really seem to be interested in compromising atall unless I was playing his way. The new medication and half pen are both funded as is apidra which I'm currently on. I didn't understand why he wouldn't compromise with me. Isn't it better I'm on something....
Anyway I saw my doctor and I broke down feeling very alone . I was also angry an thought stuff it. My dn rung me later said sorry as it wasn't how the appointment should of gone and I see her Friday and she's giving me the pen and the new insulin. I have to say she gets me and understands were I am coming from. I refuse to see that endo ever again.... I'm so gutted as I wanted to get this um camera dye test done of pancreas to see if I've had pancreatitis and if this has caused my diabetes. As I've suffered horrifically painfully naming feeling in upper abdomen nausea etc for years on an off I have attacks... I've had many tests and the last one left is this ercp I think it's called to see for scarring. Now I feel stuck or is that another specialist I could see? Maybe gastroenterology guy??? The pain is so bad I would say equal to when I get a kidney stone. My gallbladder fine an I've never had gallstones.
Sorry guys long bleety thread... had to let it out... I'm sort of on fire and very alone too....
P. S I don't no were to start.
Thank you for reading.

Hey @nessa1970 So sorry to hear this, big hugs. I know alot of people get down about appointments, and I think it's generally the fact that we go in with high expectations and come out of it feeling deflated, it's happened to me and also fairly early on with my diagnosis too and being given at the time unrealistic goals, I found that the best way to turn the appointment round is to say to them - what would you do in my shoes ? It sounds like you have a fantastic DN on your side, so that's the main point as she will be your main contact. I am curious to find out why you think you are still producing insulin though ? As your recent HI readings indicate that you're not, and from one diabetic to another, you need to be taking your insulin to get your levels down

The endocrinologist said I was still producing some by the blood test. And yes they are high bit I suppose taking no insulin would do that. He was very rude. Yes I'm lucky with my dn. It's called novo rapid here. So I'll start on Saturday. If she gives it too me Friday. I'll also talk to her about carb counting as that didn't get a chance of being mentioned as he was to much of the idea I'm on my own

Sadly some doctors are like that @nessa1970 They just don't seem to listen. The positive thing is that it sounds like you have a great DSN

Forget the doctor and concentrate on getting control with the help and support of your DSN.

As for the pain - it sounds horrible,. I hope you get some answers and some help with that.

Thanks. Yes I'll keep plugging away at it all. I'm sure it can only get better from here. My dn is really good and today I saw how great she really is. She has people skills and she cares. Likes to hug after every visit too lol and is very positive and she is a great listener. I don't think I appreciated her enough to the first month as I was so discouraged by the whole medical journey. But today I saw it have an Allie.... so with this forum and my dn I can't go wrong.... so thank you all.

Yes it is called Novorapid, and you can get pens which give 1/2 units for smaller doses, so that would be useful. It's tricky in the first few months. there's alot to adjust to and get your head round, but already you are taking in so much information and learning so much so you have the right attitude to getting on with it. Glad you are also seeing your DN this Friday, I think you need as much support as possible right now. Am off to see my DSN in an hour, she's become my rock and is such an amazing support, they really do an amazing job considering everything they have to do

I've read a few of your previous posts which provides a great deal of context into the situation. While the endocrinologist may not have exercised very good bedside manner, he didn't say anything that was untrue.

Your DN may make you feel better emotionally, but she's not doing you any favors if you're still not taking your insulin like you should.

On paper, id argue that your endocrinologist cares more about you. He's telling you what you need to hear and what will literally save your life. Either way, this isn't going to be the last bad doctor visit you have. We all have them on occasion. Try to take things constructively and don't let it get to you emotionally (easier said than done).

Yes they important if you have a supportive one.. I've been researching all day so I'm feeling quite good about things now. Have a great appointment

Mmm I do agree to a point with you. But I still feel making me feel bad was not helpful atall.and I didn't get to ask alot of questions I had either. And I don't think that's helpful atall. But he still got paid so I guess that's the main thing.

Thank you also for all your support...

Hi. You don't mention much about your diet which as always is the first priority. Are you doing the low-carb diet? Insulin will only cause weight gain if the carbs are too high. Reducing the insulin will only increase blood sugar. Can you give us some idea of your BMI?

I had acute pancreatitis back in 2011, it's the reason I am now type 1. I have also had a few kidney stones, and while the pain with them was awful, the pancreatitis was far more painful and utterly horrendous. I would have thought it would be worth investigating to see if you have chronic/recurring pancreatitis as well though, especially if the pain is persistent. A gastro specialist may be able to investigate the abdominal pain though, and you can always ask for a referral, as it could a number of things.
