First HbA1c test tomorrow since diagnosis

Some people can manage a small amount of porridge (made with water), others can't. Very few can manage a baked potato. You will only know by testing before you eat and 2 hours after your first bite. If the rise is more than 2mmol/l the meal needs attention - either a much smaller portion or avoiding altogether. Small portions of boiled new potatoes or roasted are much better than jackets and mash.

Well you know what an idiot your doctor is! He also said you aren't diabetic.
Do you have any other medical conditions that preclude eating fat? If not, why not give it a try. It is carbohydrate that makes you gain weight, not dietary fat. Try a cooked breakfast, bacon, eggs, toms and mushrooms. Or a full fat Greek yogurt with a few strawberries thrown in. Or scrambled eggs, poached eggs, boiled eggs, eggs cooked any which way.

That sounds like heaven to me o wouldn't argue with that meal lol

OK. Have it tomorrow. Test before and 2 hours after. If there is no bread involved, your levels should stay flat. Let us know how you go on

I shall need to go shopping first lol. I will miss bread but I will have to just get over it

Sorry I've bored you but I'm getting a lot of conflicting info here and at my docs. I'm not finding this easy so came for support again

your not boring me, its just you've been given this advice before and decided it wasn't for you, i suspect eventually you will decide all we eat is lettuce again

I've been told porridge is the best food but hear now it's not. I'm told to eat low fat and low meat by doc. Trying all ways not got anywhere

We all get conflicting information from our doctors, this is part of the problem we have. Has your doctor's advice on diet helped you at all? Have you lost weight? Are your BS improving? If not, then it is time to try something else. It seems from your previous threads and posts that you do know what you should be doing, so it's pointless repeating things. Carbs convert to sugar once inside the system. Fact. So why eat them? All they will do is increase your weight and increase your HbA1c. It's now up to you. You need some motivation, and maybe tomorrow's blood test results will give that to you.

Your doctor is churning out out-of-date information. If you are genuinely serious about losing weight and controlling your diabetes, then you need to change your diet. Eat less carbs and more fat.

Your right I need to get my **** together as it were

Basically you need to decide.....do you want to listen to your doctor? Or do you want to listen to fellow diabetics? Then follow whichever one you decide on, then you won't get such conflicting advice.

Coming here helps even if I have repeated or annoyed people

just had a pile of veg a baked potato and two chicken steaks breaded. i was 5.5 before and ill test at 9pm and let you know

That's a start mate!
Lower your carbs and sugars and eventually it's not an instant thing you will lose wight and more importantly your blood sugar levels.
If you had a choice of continuing the way you have done from your docs advice or go onto a new lifestyle change that actually works.
I know what you have been through for the last ten years I was told by every doc I came across that I'm on a diet of super foods like porridge etc and it's doing nothing!
It wasn't until I had to and by educating myself on diet on this forum, thanks to the many kind diabetics, I am now under control and have lost over 3 stone and all my readings including BP, cholestrol, and blood glucose have normalised, all because of a low carb diet. It's not easy, but if I can do it mate, so can you.
Let us know how you are doing.
And it's not boring, the more you ask the more we learn as well.
