Angela,

I've taken Cod Liver Oil for 20+years and have never noticed it affecting blood glucose and take mine just before eating, although I'm a type 1 I can't see it being a problem for type 2's but perhaps others may contribute later today.

I've been taking fish oil capsules for quite a few years, and when diagnosed checked it out with my GP. She said they are fine to take. My blood sugars are well under control, so they don't have any adverse effect on me.

People who are touchy.......feign indignation at the slightest thing. Hypocrites, bullies and cowards.
I have taken Omacor High Strength capsules 2g each day for a few years and no problem whatsoever.
On prescription as well.

I also take Omacor on prescription and it doesn't affect my levels either :)
If you're worried, have a quick word with your GP but there doesn't seem to be any real side effects of the capsules.

Fish Oil Capsules are great for those with high blood pressure, not high blood sugar.

My blood pressure was off the charts high and I was told to bring it down or I would be put on medication to bring it down. The doctor told me to cut out salts, stop drinking, and no coffee. But since I did not eat salt, cannot stand the taste or smell of coffee, and never touch alcohol, I had a problem. I read that Omega 3 Fish Oil helped many people bring down their blood pressure, so I bought the Omega 3 Fish Oil Forte capsules. Within 2 months, my blood pressure was down to normal. I still take them today - 6 months after originally diagnosed with Diabetes and High Blood Pressure.

I am on Metformin for the blood sugar and have my good and bad days, but the Fish Oil Capsules make no difference to my blood sugars one way or the other. I take vitamin suppliments and eat no fat or sugar at all now, and have dropped 15kg in the past 11 weeks. My doc told me that is from the Metformin tablets largely, but she wants me to keep up with the diet. Funny thing is that it is not a diet... diets end. This is now something I have to do for the rest of my life so hearing her call it a diet makes me want to smack her.

Anyways... that all aside.... I will stop talking now ;)

From what I can see on my tub of tabs, no added sugar otherwise they'd have to say. Oil has no carbs itself so can't raise your BG

Hi! Idle curiosity I'm afraid, but I spent a lot of time in NZ and have friends there. Where are you from?

Insulin
Studies have shown omega 3 will lower insulin resistance, reduce inflammation, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and triglycerides. So this tells me it may reduce too high insulin levels as well. I take prescription (Lovaza) fish oil caps - 4 gm a day (1,000 mg caps.) It's better to lower our insulin resistance than to raise your insulin (can make you fat and can cause atherosclerosis - hardening of the arteries, and make your insulin resistance even worse)
