Good article here promoting the benefits of fish oil, pleased about that because I've been taking it in capsule form for the past 20 years, and started taking it in liquid form last year after doctor's recommendation. Its foul disgusting stuff taken on the spoon, but surprisingly you do get use to it, thou my wife won't come anywhere near me for a hour or more.......I'll have to up the dose! :wink:

Are you getting this on prescription ? I take high dose Omacor which I have had ever since Heart Op in 2004. Seems to be quite beneficial to me.

I wasn't aware you could get fish oil on prescription, doctor didn't mention it at all. As I said, I had been taking capsules previousely, but he suggested taking the liquid form taking the max dose of 2 teaspoons (10ml) daily. I use the Seven Seas Pure Cod Liver Oil brand, in the 450ml bottle.

Had a quick look at Omacor, seems to be a more concentrated oil, sounds quite impressive and proberly more effective than the one I take. I wonder if its the price why my doctor failed to mention it, according to this site below it works out at £50 a month.

It certainly is down to cost. However it is far more effective than any shop bought product. Much more of the essential omega-3-acid ethyl esters.

My Endo said I needed it and that was it, been on it for 5 yrs, 2g daily. No problems with any prescriptions. Maybe you should as they say, "drop it on his toes !" Why should you pay for something that is readily available on prescription !

I'll check with the nurse at my next assessment and she if she will write me a prescription for them too.

Just so I'm clear, this isn't a drug it's a vitamin supplement?

Having spoken to my Pharmacist Pal, it is not a Drug, it is a prescribable Supplement.
Omega 3 Concentrated Fish Oil.
 
Some time last Autumn there was a programme on Radio 4 I think all about Omega 3. It was interesting as apparently there is no real benefit to using Flora spread simply because there is not enough Omega 3 in it to do any good.

According to the people speaking on the radio way too many people are not getting the balance correct between Omega 3 and Omega 6.

For myself I normally eat sardines on toast 2 x week but for people who dont like fish, eating 12 walnuts per day will give the correct amount of omega 3 and omega 6.

I shall ask for this to be added to my prescription when I see my doc in 2 weeks time. Thanks for mentioning it, never heard of it before! :) Only thing is, my prescription is starting to look like a weekly shop till receipt :?

Yeah I've heard this debate before, not on radio 4 but on the tv. I like the small tins of mackeral in tomato sauce, very cheap too at 47p a tin. Nice with a tin of tomatos and a nice slice of toasted burgen bread. :D
