After diagnosis last March I've had 1 telephone call and 2 hba1cs, no other help or support from local NHS surgery at all. The main gp sadly died and I was told the diabetic nurse role was vacant.

Today, on a whim, I called the surgery to ask what I should be receiving, and, wait for it...
The cheery helpful receptionist said "We have a diabetic nurse coming in on Tuesdays, would you like to come in see her, or have a telephone call?
No arguments, no why are you asking, no procrastination!!!
So I have a face to face booked for Tuesday
Eagerly awaiting it now. Assume she will get blood tests arranged.
Looking forward to seeing what her views are.

Never have I looked forward to a medical appointment so much.
Feel fully informed and armed (if necessary) thanks to this forum

This obvious good day for it. 2nd positive post like this today I’ve seen

Yay! :) Well done you for the perseverance!

Great news hope it all goes well delighted for you.
It’s now over a year since my last NHS review - last one early January 2020 and nothing yet. However my retinopathy hospital eye check has been arranged for Friday - last one was 18months ago in 2019 and showed some pheripheral/ background change so pleased this is now going ahead and hoping this test will show it’s resolved - says she madly crossing her fingers!

Good luck! At the very least a decent review should be a half hour appointment and should include a foot check and a detailed discussion of dietary patterns, exercise, stressors etc. Have your list of questions ready and be prepared for an interesting chat!

If possible have the blood tests done before so when you meet the DN the results are available; also make sure you have online access to your test results and medical records so you can have questions ready knowing the results. I always make sure the DN or reception have provided my test forms for the local hospital path clinic or the surgery phlebotomist.

At the moment I'm not pushing my luck. It was enough to get an appointment, even if it proves to be waste of time, it means I'm in the system, finally! Yay!
