I have been a little constipated of late, despite eating loads of veg, and my berries. I heard that Flaxseed is brilliant for helping with this problem and will not kick me out of Keto. I put two teaspoon fulls of ground Flaxseed and added hot water to it, then ate it. Can anybody tell me if this is enough for the fibre side of it?. I do not like it sprinkled on my food though lol Advice would be most welcome.

I consume 2t flaxseed daily but have no evidence of it's working. I suggest you try psyllium husk. It is not absorbed by the body so no problem with carbs. It makes motions much more slippery and comfortable to pass. However, the problem is, how to take it, if porridge is off the menu. They say to put it into a glass of liquid, but if you do it forms a lump of jelly at the bottom. Maybe one could just fish the jelly out and swallow it? I get it under the brand name Maxicol, which also contains probiotics. My GP kindly prescribes it for me, so as I am over 60 I get it free. Otherwise it is quite dear, but a tub lasts forever.

I mix it into my home made mayonnaise, once it is made. As I have salad fairly frequently I get the benefit - though I do have spells of adding ground flax seed and other low carb fibre sources to my scrambled egg and cheese. Two tablespoons seems to work well enough. I tend to do one or the other, though sometimes neither, but not for long.

The recommended dose on my packet of Linwoods milled flaxseed says 15g per serving.

15g gives you 85 cals, 3g protein, 7g fat and 4g fibre.

I also eat at least half a Lidl high protein roll a day, which is also high in fibre at 12.3g per roll approx.

When all else fails, glycerol suppositories are wonderful, made from peanut oil so no nasties and NO carbs!

What works for one, may not work for someone else, so you may have to try and see if it helps you . It is low carb as is 4 .7 carbs per 100 gm and 30.6 fibre and is a source of omega 3 . In theory one should eat 30 gm of fibre a day but I find that if I have 2 teaspoons of milled flax seed a day and drink it with water it is all I need as get enough fibre from rest of diet and more than this is not good for me . Also I drink at least 1.5 litres of fluid per day. For me Flaxseed beats bran as I think you need to be a horse to like bran!

Thank you all for your replies. I will give all ago. I think that I maybe because some days I only eat once a day, even though my evening meal consists of lots of vegs, could be the cause, not eating enough perhaps. Today I have had the two teaspoons of flax in hot water and a massive green salad with tomatoes, cucumber, celery and ham. I read that Romanian lettuce is very good which is what I had.

Do you mean Romaine lettuce? It is supposed to be the best type of lettuce for just about everything and is the one recommended for feeding tortoises because of the nutrients. (as opposed to Icebergs which are all water)

I have 2 tablespoon of flaxseed each morning with my Greek yoghurt and berries. I prefer the one that has walnuts and almonds in it to the plain

I can't do flax at all. Just to throw the opposite into the mix. I don't do well with fiber though. I need to be very careful. Veg and avocado fiber is enough for me.

Flax, chia, psyllium all stop ,y digestion in its tracks.

I hope it works for you!!

Are you definitely constipated and not just needing to "go" less frequently due to eating less and so producing less in the way of waste?

Robbity

PS Plenty of fats/oils can also help ease the passage.... and flax/linseed is nice and oily :D

This could have been part of the problem, but even when I was eating more I was still having the same problem. I have put two teaspoons of ground Flax into a container and added a little warm water these past couples of days, and I seem fine now. The Flaxseed seemed to do the job : )

Flaxseed is a miracle cure! If it stops helping, try another dose a few hours later.

Yes, that is the lettuce that I buy. Love it. I am not so keen on Romanian lettuce in the winter, it seems to be more bitter,as the leaves are darker..but I will still eat it

I like Boston/Bibb lettuce. Very tender. I know what you mean about romaine being bitter in the winter. Sometimes organic bagged chopped is less bitter. I rarely buy the big heads but rather the organic bagged HEARTS. They aren't so rough and bitter. Lighter and tender.

I wish flax worked for me!!!!

Yes, wish the Romanian lettuce would keep the same all year round, as it is my fav. I also like rocket, and water cress. The red lettuce is very bitter also, I really cannot eat that. I have forgotten what it is called now. Awww it is a shame that the Flax does not work for you. Somebody on here said that Husk was good also for constipation. Constipation is horrible as it can make a person feel ill and miserable
