On Friday I went to the optician who said that I have a floater on my eye, to me I thought it was an eyelash but he checked and found nothing.
When I have my eye open I see a black squiggle which looks like an eyelash, he told me not too worry as I would get used too it.
Has anyone else experienced this and what did their optician say.

Floaters are more common than we think and non-diabetics can experience them too, I think it's just the vitreous jelly in the eye sticking that makes them appear.

If the Optician is sure it's only a floater then I wouldn't worry too much about it, if it was an eye bleeds (as in Diabetic Retinopathy) you would see a number of streaks that look like spiders legs, after a while they disperse and break-up into a thousand small dots and eventually settle to the bottom of the eye.

Hope the floaters disappears in time Trev!

I will make an appointment with eye doc just in case.

I have a floater in my eye and I got really worried about it as it was all I could focus on for a little while. I went to the optician and they said that after a while your brain will learn to see past it and you'll not notice it at all. Sure enough they were right. It took about 3 weeks or so but I don't see it at all now.

You might also notice floaters when it's brighter outside. I've had them for years but wasn't diagnosed diabetic then. To put your mind at rest why don't you consult your diabetic eye specialist, they might be willing to give you a phone consultation.

Hi, I regularly go to opticians as well as retinopathy exam at my local hospital - I do the hospital every six months as my mother lost most of her sight very quickly after her diabetes was diagnosed. Although it was missed for about fifteen years, and mine has been missed for about five years. This was found out because of damage behind an eye - but I was asked if I had any floaters. I replied no as I had not. Later that week I had one literally float across my eye - like a sort of square - I was told not to worry, that these things happen especially as we age. I am 65. I found along with the floater though I had flashing lights - like a migraine of sorts without a headache. But a sort of fuzzy head came about fifteen minutes later. I sat down and tried not to get in a flap and the flashing kaleidescope sort of effect ended about twenty minutes later. Dont much care for it, but seems that it could just be aging???

Hi there I've had "eye floaters" ever since I can remember (only been diagnosed diabetic in the last couple of weeks), my optician told me not to worry at all, it's just dirt/debris and that everyone gets it

Hi I have been t1 for 25 yrs now and never experienced a eye floater. I have one now and to be honest im a little panicked, everyone on here has said its a square but mine keeps changing shape and bits coming off it. Should I see my optician or try for a apt at the eye clinic. It's right in my line of sight and driving me mad. Any help would be appreciated.
