Fluctuating Hb1ac

Hi,
Last year I was diagnosed as pre diabetic with an hb1ac level of 47. In January this year I was up to 50 and therefore diabetic. The Dr then said he would test again in two months to see if medication was required. The result is back to 47 (having tried really hard to moderate lifestyle). I have an appointment next week. Am I likely to be prescribed medication? I’m not sure if I could sustain the harsh lifestyle change I’ve made in the last 8 weeks on a long term basis.
I had a heart attack 2 years ago so on numerous meds for that if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Dave

As you have reduced your HbA1c rather than increased it again, medication is unlikely

However, lifestyle changes, especially diet, are for life, not just a few weeks I'm afraid. If you return to your old ways, you are likely to progress upwards.

I see from your other thread that you have been following the 8 weeks sugar diet. You now need to sort out a more sustainable low carb diet. One you enjoy, and one that will help your blood sugars (and at the same time, your heart). Have you any plans?

Please tell us what you eat on a normal day and what you find hard about your "harsh" lifestyle changes.

As @Bluetit1802 says, I think the key is finding a way of eating that you enjoy and that will also help you to manage your condition. Personally I find low carb high fat is satisfying - can even feel indulgent at times - and very effective for blood glucose management.

Yes, it might be worth listing all your meds, and also checking them by Googling "Does xxx raise blood glucose?" as many unfortunately do. Some (all?) statins can have this effect.
