Hi @memissyj :)

The FODMAP diet has been mentioned here before, I think, so hopefully someone will be along later to comment.

In the meantime, welcome to the forum :)

There is a good resource and app available via the Monash Uni website: http://www.med.monash.edu/cecs/gastro/fodmap/

Another site: http://thefodmapcentral.com/fodmap-diet-beginners-guide/

I've never followed the diet strictly and found I don't react to all of the foods - the worst offenders for me are wheat, alliums, sugar and artificial sweeteners. By avoiding those, I pretty much control most of my IBS symptoms. It takes some trial and error to find out your own trigger foods. One food I react strongly to yet is approved by the diet is capsicums. I avoid them like the plague :)

I used to follow FODMAP eating. Now pretty much have to eat onions as they are pretty much the basis of every soup I make.

It did help me a lot and I know of two others that never eat onion or garlic which are the most significant items to cut out.

It depends upon why you are following as to how much it will help and also how you can adapt..

To me it was eliminating everything and gradually reintroducing some foods in minimal portion and seeing if I could eat them.

Welcome @memissyj

Do you have type 2 diabetes only? Or do you have other conditions, specifically autoimmune conditions too? Wondering why you've been started on a FODMAP diet as there are easier diets to try first to bring blood glucose levels down and improve insulin sensitivity, typically within 30 days. :)

I, like you, have type 2 diabetes. I also have two autoimmune conditions: inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and subclinical hyperthyroid. Not fun, but the IBD is back in remission finally, and the subclinical hyperthyroid cycles from better to worse to better, etc. so not too worried about it for now.
