Well today was my follow up appointment with DN and I was so chuffed my last HB1 was 44 . Now taken of meds except Metformin which will be reviewed in 1month.
Last December H1 was 122 April it was 79 now 44 pre diabetic. Weight loss 48 pounds. All down to low carb lifestyle, more exercise and fabulous support and advice on forum.
DN amazed but told me to up carbs as I will have been having hypos. Not yet experienced this as I have not appeared to have dropped below 4.8 on monitor.
Any advice will be great. I still have some weight to lose so will continue as I am doing .

Well, I wouldn't up the carbs. It's reducing carbs that has brought your levels right down. You won't (or are very, very unlikely to) have hypos on metformin anyway. The DN is clearly inexperienced in the effects and successes of a low carb lifestyle. I'm fairly sure that if you have had a hypo, you would be aware of it afterwards, if not at the time, but this isn't my specialist subject, so I won't say more.
Keep up the good work!

Congratulations @emmielou youve done amazing from a really high starting point in a short space of time.
As it’s working so well I’d agree with you why change what you’re doing? I don’t know much about Metformin but from what I’ve read on the forum hypos are unlikely. I had to stop Metformin when Intermittent Fasting and only eating one meal a day which I did for a month but my prob wasn’t hypos but problems with my guts. I spent much on my time on the loo! This resolved once came off them! We are all different and that includes our reaction to Metformin. Good that you are reviewing in a month but I’d be minded to carry on doing what you’re doing and keep getting your weight down if that’s your aim alongside your good bg numbers well done. Please accept a congratulatory hug and pat on the back from me.

Thank you for your comments. I agree, I am going to continue to low carb and believe the DN was inexperienced and had no real knowledge of low carb .
I am also given to understand that you do not have hypos on Metformin and of course now they have stopped meds I will continue to check bloods and monitor effect of stopping.
I only wish that more DN , medics would open their eyes to the great results being gained by so many low carbers . In whatever form they find works for them.
I never go below 50 carbs but not above 80 and this works for me.
Thanks again

Thanks, I agree with your comments it certainly is working well for me. I am amazed at how quickly my figures have come down. I have never felt deprived or hungry and love the low carb diet. My life is different from 6 months ago and I certainly will never return to old ways because I feel so good.
