Food Giants renege on promise to government to reduce sugar content.

Reduced sugar = reduced flavour. Food would never sell, would it ?

Why am I not surprised? Tobacco companies are easy compared to this lot.

It's all down to the lovey dovey advertising... When there is an insidious aggressive placement in the "temptation isles" too.. ( I know this.. I've worked in food retail & dealt with the "reps".)
They spin these products as an easy fun option to real food. When the reality is it will "peak & trough" the average non D through the day with no dietary benefit at all.. (I've worked with people who believe they can function through a working day on what is essentially a one off treat & keep coming back for more....)
If "your not you when your hungry"".. Eat proper...??!

And they keep selling the line to governments that they can be trusted to self-regulate? Hah!

It's down to the "punter" to self regulate... Otherwise we are at risk of a "nanny state". ;)

I kind of agree to a degree, LOL, but most of what they're selling is full of chemicals and additives and if they won't regulate themselves, then what other choice is there? They should be allowed to get away with poisoning people? The latest one is nanotechnology - we should trust them to regulate themselves with this as well?

I don't think a nanny state is nearly as scary as completely unregulated corporations who can do anything they want with absolutely no comeback. Look at Monsanto - they're setting it up so they can't even be sued if their GMO crops cause harm to people.

Just surviving is hard for most people these days - now they're meant to be as educated as biochemists too?

That's cool Indy, :)

The link you provided was an interesting read.. Thanks!
This nano tech stuff has been going on for years to enhance products like washing powder with phosphorescent to brighten & give the impression of clean..
The Victorian era had "adulterants" in food like milk to stop the sour taste when it was slightly going off with boracic acid which probably attributed to child mortality rate at the time..?
Bread was not entirely made up of flour in that era either.. The weight was made up using plaster of Paris or chalk..

I think we can agree that when people think of nano technology, they imagine "helpful little robots" repairing internal organs & body parts..?
Not contaminating food with alien chemical compounds for aesthetic purposes..

I like the bit about easy fun option to real food - that is exactly what they do.

My GP says 'if you can't pronounce it then how the hell do you expect your body to recognise it, digest it and metabolize it!'

Makes you hanker for the good old days of real food when everyone's mum could cook proper meals etc, and we all ate more than 5 a day without even thinking about it. Too much choice is not always a good thing!

Good point Jaylee.

Reading the article it does seem there's been some changes but not enough.
