Food labeling confusing

Hi

I've bought some Cheddar Cheese nibbles and on the labeling it says the carbohydrate is 39.4g (per 100 grams) but the levels of which turn to sugar are 0.1g (per 100g) does this mean it won't affect my BG much? I realise I have to test my BG regularly after eating new things to see what works for me but I do find labeling rather confusing.

Hi Meg,

All of the carbohydrate will turn into glucose I'm afraid. High GI stuff converts very quickly, low GI more slowly.

The formulation of 39.4g of which sugars 0.1g means that 0.1g is essentially glucose now, but you need to look at the total carbohydrate count as that is what will turn into glucose on digestion.

Beware though of the actual weight of the product. If it's 39.4g carb per 100g weight and it only weighs 25g then that's 10g carb and not as bad. If it weighs 250g...
