Foods that you thought would spike you surprisingly dont

A chocolate eclair with fresh cream filling. Choux pastry is ok with me lol. Eaten as part of a meal fine...on its own a 2.0 spike...
Ooh, I might try those then - I did look at them the other day thinking they might have less carbs but by the time I'd looked at the donut figures and the cream horn I thought woah, no way and swiftly left the isle :D

Have you tried normal short crust? I can't even have a tiny piece!
I'm going to try a shop bought mince pie - my friend bought them - then gave them to me after we'd had one each (so 6 left). Gave two to a friend and froze the rest. Didn't test the one I ate as we'd been busy shopping and by the time I got home was too late to tell

I'm guessing the results WILL be HIGH - just eaten tea though (the curry with the wheat grain instead of rice. Shop sauce I was using up and a handful of fruit/nut mix and mixed beans rather than meat) so I shall have to wait now as I want to see the figures for that first. I never realised just how often I snack (or did) within 2 hours of a meal until I started testing

Sad isn't it. I love pastry.
Supposedly quinoa flour, almond flour or coconut flour are better but although I have bought some of each to try I haven't done so yet so don't really know if you can bake as normal with them - - will let you know when I do

Id try maybe half a one...honestly. its almost pure sugar. But if you really want to. Then try it with cream. It may slow things down. I cannot as it would start me off carb craving again...and that's why I'm here on this forum. Carbs are addictive little blighters!!

I,ve been making mince pies last weekend & the ones I made with homemade mincemeat had very little effect on my BG but the idustrial ones raise it if I just sniff one, so I agree with the theory that shops tend to "fill" their products with cheap stuff to cover the fact that sometimes there not so good. Back to the kitchen for me- only two pies a day though :(
@madperson - out of interest what flour do you use? For a long time I've always used wholemeal flour rather than white but in another post just mentioned I've bought some quioa, almond and coconut flours to use but haven't tried them yet

Honestly. Try it. Butterkist microwave popcorn hot. Wicked innit lol
I used to love the sweet (pink and yellow) that they sold on Blackpool Pleasure Beach but then I got to like the Butterkist toffee one (and other similar ones) I've seen various flavours of popcorn out now - black pepper, sour cream and chive, salt and vinegar......

As I was putting out my tea, with your popcorn reference in mind, I wondered if you can "pop" wheat grains.... (are sugar puffs?) - none left now other than the other cooked portion so can't try it until I've shopped again) anyone know?

I'm really not keen on any but the salted ones

Ladies ;) How about those sugar free DaVinci syrups sprayed on some plain popcorn on a tray? Not sure whether it'd work putting it in the popcorn maker or pan? There's all sorts of flavours though @Sable_Jan
Not heard of those but then I do steer away from anything with sweeteners in. I get an aftertaste wth most of them apart from the maltitol in Thornton's sugar free chocolates. Will look them up, thank you :)

Found some on eBay but in America. Some other sugar free ones on there tho :)

I've ordered the popcorn........didn't realise it was an OK snack as it is quite high in carbs but I guess you don't actually eat a lot of it at once as it is so lightweight. Presume also possibly low GI?

espressoservices . co . uk and sugarfreemegastore . co or com both sell them
Copied and bookmarked - thank you now I can have a browse at my leisure - as said, popcorn on order and if the syrups don't work on the popcorn I can use them for flavourings in my baking (with the lower carb flours I've just ordered at the same time as the popcorn

There are 30+ g of carbs in the average mince pie.

*announced in doom laden tones*
With the quinoa and soya flours I have ordered I will be trying to make some with some dried fruit and some diced apple (nothing glace of course), vegetable suet, maybe a little cinnamon, nutmeg, mixed spice to flavour (or maybe even mulled wine spices) using unsalted butter to make the pastry nice and rich.......ooh, hope they turn out as good as they sound.....can but experiment - I know the sugars in the fruit will keep them quite high but nowhere near 30gs of carbs....I hope!!!
