Foot Rash (Horrible Picture Warning!)

Good morning. I've had a similar type of rash at the top of my legs my bum and my feet my GP treating me for Celluitis thing is it's been like this since Jan 12th that's when I started the first antibiotics it just will not go away.

I've also had a similar looking rash on my shins - started just after New Year and coincidentally just after I'd stopped taking the long acting Metformin and went back to the normal version. The rash was initially very itchy and like a mass of liquid filled pimples but after a day it stopped being itchy, but remained very red for 3.5 months or so. Then earlier this month the rash on my shins enlarged and appeared on my forearms. Went to the GP who thought it might be an allergy but he made an appointment the following week with another GP who was also a dermatologist. She took one look and said its a 'classic' reaction to medication. I know metformin causes my legs to swell, so stopped taking metformin last Thursday for a 3 month test and went on to insulin. Any leg swelling disappeared by Saturday, the rash on my arms has gone and the rash on my legs is fading very quickly...

Hi there it’s a form of dermatitis I’ve had it for a while the doctor gave me a antiseptic cream for it and it did clear it up to a certain extent but it keeps coming back I would suggest you go see your doctor it does seem to be a common problem with us diabetics although everyone is different

As I said, my rash is a 'classic' reaction meds and thats a quote from a GP with a dermatology specialisation. I'm on several meds but metformin is the only one I've had any sort of a problem with - I've stopped and started it several times over the last 2.5 years or so and when I stop using it the swelling goes after a few days and when I restart it so does the swelling. It's why I've started a 3 moth test not using it...to see what happens re the leg swelling.

When I went to the doctor she never mentioned the medication I was on only if anything had irritated my foot all I could think of was I bought new socks which I did not wash before using! That was over a year ago since then it has never really gone it got worse the skin broke and I had to cover the infection when in bed I think my foot was rubbing against the edge of the mattress I was putting plasters on it but wasn’t healing now the skin has healed and I’ve started putting antiseptic cream on again so hopefully that clears it up I’ve googled the problem and it’s common complaint with diabetes but no mention of medications but who knows ?

I'm no expert on rashes, I just know about mine, and what I've been told about them. Your GP, is the pest (sic) sorry best person to advise you or to refer you to a dermatologist. I'm lucky, a local GP is both. I think rashes can look similar but it also depends on how they manifest... whether they're caused by a systemic problem or a topical application of a substance. All I can say is that today my rash on my shins looks pretty much like the images of the lady's foot.

The rash on my foot is exactly the same as well but not anywhere else only the feet I’m only giving an opinion of what it is going with what my doctor said , who unfortunately is not as far as I believe a qualified dermatologist like yours but the forum is all about opinions and help but the real thing is to get qualified help before doing something that makes it worse

I totally agree with everything you've said...I just mentioned my rash and what it seems to be about...rashes and their causes can be a minefield and require proper investigation. I've only mentioned mine because it looked like the photo although its on my shin and mine is some sort of medication issue (whether its metformin or not time will tell) but its something that some people might like to suggest to their GP if all the creams and ointments aren't helping theirs.

Well I went to my diabetic check this morning and the diabetic nurse checked my rash. She said she didn't feel it was related to my diabetes... but that she felt it looked more like eczema... not sure I agree as I have never suffered eczema. Anyway she has referred me to another appointment which is in 10 days time with the Doctor. She said that generally a diabetic rash for poor circulation would be more purple or more red, or just generally more of a block colour than mine as mine is more pimply looking! I will keep you posted!

I never suffered eczema too, but seems that happened to me. Did you have changed soap or washing machine soap recently?

im concerned about whether my feet are worse im type 2 diabetic and i keeo getting random red dots on them any thoufhts as my gp keeos fobbing it off
