I have decided to take to “bull by the horns” so to say and get my BS levels under control. Had a reading of 23 and feel quite hot all the time but not in a good way. So from 1st September trying really hard. It’s not easy, go shopping with son. He buys custard tarts and doughnuts then continues to offer then to me. Husband cant understand why I go out for a meal and don’t want to drink alcohol. I eat half a pizza (well it’s better than all of it) but have a side of roast veg to fill up. My family keep offering the other sides of chips and onion rings. Dessert anyone! My willpower is getting a good workout! Do u get this constant onslaught on carb offerings? On their defence my family do not understand what carbs are!

Sounds like you need to educate them and explain what carbs could do to you?

If you are attached to your eyes and toes then it's for your own benefit.

Sadly our whole society has been using food in this way for years. They, your family and friends, think it's normal. However now millions of us are starting to find out that way of eating is harmful to many of us.

Few things to do:
Stick with it. In a few months they will all be commenting on how well and slim you look, and how did you do it? :angelic:

Get a cgm, Libre does a 2 week free trial and then you can show them how much carbs spike you. It can look quite dramatic as it takes you out of safety zone and is a good visual for them to remember. (It's very good motivation for you too)

Keep separate tins and areas in the kitchen. My husband and son are allowed carbs , as long as they are out of sight! They also have to keep out of my low carb goodies. It's an unbreakable rule. !! 2 years in and they are now eating much lower carb as they have gradually learned more and see the good results.

Prepare before you go out, perhaps look at the menu on line and work out choices beforehand. Or take something with you. Alcohol isn't all bad. A small glass of wine topped up with soda, and the second and 3rd glasses being just soda looks socially acceptable
This blog from couple of Australian lady doctors explains more about how to cope going out

Keep posting here, lots of good ideas and support

Unfortunately, some people seem to struggle with people eating a different diet.
About 30 years ago, I chose not to eat meat. My Dad still thinks it’s a phase I am going through which I will eventually grow out of.
If low carb is what you feel you need, stick with it. If you family persist in offering carbs, talk to them about how their pressure is making you feel and why you have made your dietary choice.
