Hi

New here, just woke up and forgot to take Lantus at 8pm, can I just ride it out or shall I take reduced amount.

No pancreas or gall bladder from recent operation due to 'C' 8 weeks ago

No left Kidney due to 'C' in 2018.

Regards

I wish I could answer that with some certainty, but I cannot, so will not. But I hope there is someone who knows.

For me personally I took a reduced amount from what I usually take, 35 units per 24 hours, so I divided 35 by 24 and then multiplied that with the amount of hours I had to go until the next full dose. I have no idea if this is right, but it has always work for me.

I would suggest you wait to get a second opinion on here, or if at all possible, contact your local healthcare team.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums @lodgey50

Hopefully you've contacted your local team. (Or dialled 111)

The issue here is we don't know what or how much your insulin regime is. If you have no pancreas at all you are presumably T3c and have no insulin production. (And that lack of knowledge is one reason why forum rules don't let us give specific dosing amounts).

At this point are you on a basal/bolus regime (lantus plus short acting)? Are you on one dose of lantus or splitting it?

Personally I would just inject away if my lantus was only a few hours late, but with a 6 hour gap it's going to be a pain, because if you do that you'll have 6 hours on the next evening when you have a double dose in the system. One way to deal with that would be to inject the next dose late (say at midnight) and gradually work your way back to the 8pm time, but you'd need to be very cautious about hypos.

Another way would be to manage the day by giving small doses of bolus (short acting insulin) but that would depend on your confidence in adjusting insulin doses according to your readings and I doubt you've got there yet.

Add in the fact that T3cs often have reduced hypo awareness and I urge you to be very careful and do lots of testing (hopefully you have a glucose sensor with alarms).

Really the best advice I've got is contact your team and keep testing.

Good luck and do let us know how you go.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

I take mine at around the 10pm mark. (Lantus.)
We all react differently to a dose pending on where injected & wot not.
From my experience, anything upto 4 hours late. Not a problem, full dose.
Realisation 6/8hours later? I’d use a similar formula calculating dose to @Matt2023 .
Keeping a close eye on the BGs..

Forgetting a dose is one of those “scenarios” one forgets to ask (what if?) when faced with this under a ton of information and questions needed to ask from HCPs..

Best wishes.

Hi

I just gave myself a rapid injection of 8 as my blood reading was 25, then ate some weetabix. Have done readings since and now down to 16. Will do readings again before lunch.

I had part pancreas removal in 2021 and managed with diet and exercise with no insulin after about 6 months after surgery.

Since my last op to have it removed, I now dependant on it but they changed my slow insulin from levirmir to lantus. Also have to take Creon with all food. Some days my bloods are as low as 5 which surprises me as I do like my food and biscuits lol.

Normally take 7 units x 3 of nova rapid and 12 units at night of Lantus.

Thanks for ur kind advice guys, is appreciated.
