Diet only
Good people I need to find a GP (NHS or possibly private) in the Guildford, Surrey area if possible who is sympathetic & supportive to the treatment of T2 by diet and lifestyle. My current GP is anything but! I was diagnosed in Oct 2015 and have used LCHF diet and exercise to get my HbA1c down to almost normal levels. This has also got my cholesterol down to normal levels. Following my annual eye exam last week I had a referral for an apparently non diabetic condition now identified as an Impending Retinal Vein Occlusion (IRVO) in my left eye. The Dr said it will probably clear up, that there could be 100 reason for it but doesn't think it's the T2. Given the fact diabeties is a main cause of IRVO this seems a little unlikely to me but what do I know!
I need to find a GP who will work with me and encourage my chosen form of treatment especially now as my eyes are involved. Any advice/experiance would be grateful received. Cheers, Dan

Good afternoon @SabianAAX I'm sorry I can't help .I'm afraid the Kent NHS ie Doctors are still living in Dickensian times ,hence why its called Charles Dickens country;)

I'd be more inclined to sort out the treatment for the IRVO, then decide on the treatment of the diabetes.
It can be caused by other factors, but then if diabetes is one of the contributing factors, I would take heed at least of medical advice regarding it's control for the time being.
What level of specialist are you seeing after the referral, as by 'doctor' you don't mean your GP?

Your health is extremely important, so if you can afford it I advise you to go to a private doctor. If you have to rely on the NHS, it's a postcode lottery as most practices won't take anyone from outside their catchment area. Either way, private or NHS, you will still have to find a modern doctor from the pool available.

Brian, very few Doctors only do private work. Most are also NHS, although I do know of exceptions, including a GP. Her consulation rates are 3 figures for each interaction.

My main concern with going private is the strong chance the GP will be wedded to the NHS guidelines, and thus be an expensive route to the same style of interaction.

@SabianAAX - If you are looking at a private GP, I know someone who works solely privately, and part of her marketing is via this website: http://www.privategp.com/ . Being private is not necessarily a benchmark for being better, cutting edge or even a bit forward thinking.

Good luck with it all.
