Michael Gove and his insane educational? policies!
Am having a bad day. Woke up at 5am. On a Saturday and the kids were still asleep!!!!!!! Did fasting bloods at 7 and reading was......7!!! Had cup of black tea and quick shower. Cycled to shop and bought sausages (97.5% meat - only 2.5% carbs) as we had run out and pedal fell off bike. 30 minute walk home then took bs. 8.2!!!!!! Why?! Thought exercise brought bs down?! On a positive note hubbie has fixed bike but worried that bs will be high after brekkie :(

you may have lowered your levels to a level where you got you liver to provide you with more from its stores. I am sure you will find it goes down rapidly and will not be punished after breakfast as your liver and muscles will want to restore their glucogen stores. Remember that is ft being converted into glucose so it is all good as long as it doesnt go to high. have your breakfast and go for a short 10 minute cycle to test your fixed bike while the family wash the dishes after breakfast so it is all spick'n'span when you get home

Same thing happens to me if I don't eat asap after waking up - my BG continues to rise until I eat. I never know whether it's dawn phenomenon or a liver dump - the whole thing can be confusing at times.

I went without eating from my breakfast at 6.30am till around 2.30pm. I took my BG at 11.30 and it was 5.3, but by 2.30 it was back up to 7.5 - so I'm assuming a liver dump in between. The body is always trying for homeostasis and counter-regulation processes kick into place if it thinks BG is too low.

Could have even been stress caused by pedal coming off your bike. I'm sure you'll be fine soon ( hopefully not 12 at 12 lol ).

Just feeling bit down in the mouth. Not usual for me. Trying to get bs down and as much weight off as possible as want to prove to doc that LCHF works too. On a lighter note, the reason I had to buy sausages was that I came down yesterday to find my lovely but dippy nine year old eating her brekkie as our very fat and sneaky cat was tucking into mine!

Don't beat yourself up ! You've made great progress, one dodgy reading doesn't mean anything. Remember, there's a 20% tolerance, could have actually been 6.6 :-)

Thank you :)

Now at 5.5 and have lost a further 1lb! Weird. Wonder if anyone has weekly glass of white wine? Started having 1 square of very dark hoccie after evening meal. Anyone else?

Whoop whoop :-)
Well done ! Glass of wine won't hurt you ! I have a few beers, bit carby I know but the alcohol negates it for me. I know we have to be careful with diet/lifestyle but think we all need the occasional treat.

Thank you! You've made me feel a lot better! :)

To ensure I have a consistent approach I always do my fasting test pretty much as soon as I get up. I rarely lie in once I'm awake. I just love the early morning light and cool here, and at the moment we have a pod of three dolphins come to visit most mornings before 7am. That will stop in a few weeks, so I like to watch them whilst I can.

I know I can agonise over apparently rogue readings, but I'm trying to persuade myself that provided any rogue reading remains in my self set range I will accept what the meter says. Mainly. Sort of. Most of the time.

Exercise only brings the sugar down if there is insulin in your body! (Something Iearnt a few weeks ago!)

Walking lowers my bg but cycling sends it up. I have no explanation! You are doing great x

cycling is more aerobic than walking so your muscles get through their stores much faster so they demand more glucose from your liver
