Freestyle 2 sensors

I have today had to contact Abbott about a new sensor not staying connected to my phone…..

Abbott have always replaced swiftly and without question so no issues there.

However as this is at least the fourth one AND they have ALL failed when on my LEFT arm I am curious as to whether others have seen this trend? However I can ALWAYS take a manual reading and I do.

Checked all the usual things ( again!) and that is the ONLY issue I can see …. Phone is actually CLOSER to the sensor when it’s in my left arm than when on the right so I don’t see an issue there!

Whilst it is no a huge problem for me I feel if it is happening to others then clearly something is amiss and whilst the company is replacing free of charge somewhere down the line this will be increasing the costs for both the NHS and private purchasers to cover the company expenses….

So please let me know or just post here and I will keep my eye on this thread……

I hate waste ….. that is my motivating factor

Ah, sorry I missed the left arm bit of your message!
That is odd then! I used Libre 1 and then Libre 2 for years. Never had any problem like this and I was using all sorts of alternative sites and 3rd party apps.

I had a recent run of sensors whose Bluetooth failed (on both arms), it may just be chance that it's always been on the same side for you. Certainly I think they've had a bad run of sensors recently.
Good to know ; Abbott said that the last one I sent back for checking “wouldn’t be done for three months” ***???

They've not wanted the last couple with Bluetooth failures back at all which made me wonder if they accepted there was a problem with a problematic batch. OTOH perhaps they just didn't have capacity/don't actually glean anything very useful from having the sensors returned.

i have had a couple recently that I have had to take manual readings from as the sensor has not picked it up, but there is nothing wrong with the sesor itself so no need to replace.

Depends whether you can go hypo (especially overnight) due to medication, for a T1 if the Bluetooth fails the sensor is no longer particularly useful unless you happen to have a miaomiao or similar to stick onto it.

Don’t update your iPhone to iOS 17 switch off auto system updates. iOS 17 is not fully compatible wait until Abbott say all is ok. If you have updated you will need a Freestyle reader. Abbott supplied one free to me with a new sensor as the reader will not work if you have scanned the sensor with your phone app first.

I’m running 17.5.1 without any problems.

For me I had a problem every month, either constantly losing the signal and having to scan the sensor or just spurious readings. The reader they supplied works ok but the software is worse than the app. I would switch back to the app but if I have the same issues they will not replace the sensor so that could be 2 sensors in the bin as the sensor will only work with the machine used to first scan it.

Type 2 here! If Bluetooth fails I'm in trouble with nocturnal hypos and would have to obtain a replacement....

I've had the occasional signal loss problem, but as a T2 on pills this is not a major problem.
I have found that manual scanning keeps it up to date and mostly the Bluetooth kicks back in within 24 hours.

Not adequate for T1s guarding against hypos, though.

The new Libre 2 Plus seems better so far.

Last sensor worked fine for the duration, the current one was a bit glitchy to start with but settled down quickly and is now about half way through (have I tempted fate I wonder...!?)

Yes, out of the last 4, 2 have failed and those have been on my left arm.
