I am trying to start using the Freestyle Libre 2, but I cannot unscrew the cap from the applicator. My husband couldn’t either, but the video shows the user (a woman) just easily unscrewing it. What do
i need to do?

Are you guys unscrewing anti-clockwise?

Rubber gloves for a better grip?
 
No, I haven’t tried rubbed rubber gloves. But my hubby and I are screwing the top the proper direction. LOL. Thanks for considering that as a possibility.

If you have cello tape? (& who hasn’t as crimbo impends.) you could try wrapping a hand, sticky side out with it, to get a little purchase..?

This sounding more & more like “Viz” magazine.. (sorry.)

Another quick one.. less messy.. 2 rubber bands? One around the top half, the second round the bottom of the applicator. For grip.
 
It sounds daft, but do you have a non slip mat for a tray to stop plates from slipping off? If you wrap it round the applicator loosely it gives a good grip. You can also buy a roll of it, and cut a piece off.
 
Sounds like a great idea, but I think the problem might be a manufacturer’s defect. I have tried messaging customer support, but they have not been able to help. I will call them on Monday and try talking to someone. I cannot believe I’m the only one who has had this problem.

A leather belt cinched round the top might help. We sometimes resort to one to loosen jar tops.
 
I find them difficult to open but not been beat by one yet. I have to wonder how people with arthritic hands manage.
 
i have arthritic hands and opening them is challenging. I use Zyliss tool to open them up.
 
I do have arthritis in my hands, which is why I get my husband to try after I’ve given the twisting my all. Alas, he couldn’t open them either. It is just twisting the cap, right? No odd hand placement or push down and then twist, right?
 
Yes it's just twisting the top clockwise and the bottom anti-clockwise at the same time. Some are easier than others to open, but it does sound like you've got a faulty one.
 
The Applicator screw cap was stuck (frozen in place). The cap could not be taken off the applicator so a new sensor could not be inserted and applied to my arm. I tried 7 applicator/sensor boxes and 5 out of 7 caps could not be removed from the applicators. My supplier sent me 5 replacements, but the 1st on I tried also failed to unscrew.
Finally, I used a hard rubber pliers style jar opener to break open the plastic cap!
I love the product, but there is clearly a design problem that places a weaker or elderly patient at risk.
 
I have this problem every time. You need to have very strong wrists and hands. In my opinion this is a design fault. There is no consideration for people with arthritis or other physical difficulties.
 
I just started using the sensor but I cannot get the applicator cap off. My dietician got the first one off and applied to my arm. does it have a seal like they do around some juice bottles where you can get a knife in there to break it? It kind of looks like it does but haven’t tried that yet. How they expect people with poor hand strength to get this open is a joke
