Freestyle Libre (different To Last Post)

Ok do u guys use pump therpy and how offen do u hace to do a finger prick blood glucose

Ellie is still on injections. She only finger pricks when she is testing her bloods before eating the rest of the time she scans her sensor

You'd definitely want to finger prick before insulin doses at least for the first few days as not all sensors are very accurate, especially during the first few days.

I think the responsible advice is that you shouldn't inject based on a CGM reading but in practice some do once they've learned whether a sensor is reliable or not.

And also I'm going to try and get the NHS to provide me with my sensors

Ok yh get what u are saying thanks for the advice and I will be taking your advice so thank you

Stay safe :) I'll cross my fingers you get a reliable sensor!

With libre:

After your first sensor goes in it should read pretty accurately within 12 hours.

If you continue to use it and put another sensor in then I would suggest you put the other sensor in 12-24 hours before the other one runs out.... Thiswill give time to the new sensor (without activating it) to stabilise to your body.

I did not get any case with my reader 7 weeks a go. I just bought a padded make up bag to put it in and the blood strips.

You need to be sure that it has been fully set up by your nurse with their professional code- then you can use it almost like a blood testing machine to recommend your insulin.. You can tap in how many carbs etc you have ate etc. My hospital nurse didn't even know about these settings or the code to be entered to enable the full functionality of the Libre.

If you drive you must do a blood test.

My libre is accurate to my aviva blood test monitor providing my levels are between 5 to 8. Then it will start to vary.

Last weekend due to ongoing probs I ended up with an ambulance. The libre and my blood test machine were within 1.0 ml of each other.. The ambulance staff using the "True" blood tests were 4 or 5 ml lower than my libre or aviva blood testing machines. It was quite shocking... But I know my libre and aviva tests were more accurate than the ambulance paramedics testing machine. Especially as some true blood strips have been recalled!!

Sign the petition for cgm's on the gov petition website if you want tontry and help to get the NHS to fund Libres... Very, very few people get funded...

I'm pushing my CCG for long term funding due to only having 4 fingers to test on and other issues.. But only very, very rare cases ever get approval from my CCG for short term funding. Short term funding has to be applied for under the exceptional and individual funding request application.

You will find your CCGs stance/policy on funding CGMs online.
