Hello, can anyone advise me about getting a Libre 2 sensor in the Austrian Tyrol, or at a push Germany as we are within driving distance of the border.
We're on holiday, a sensor has just been knocked off and phoning round local pharmacies isn't bringing much joy !!! I'm pretty sure you can buy one here without a prescription but it's actually finding a stockist that is the problem.

I'm not sure, but it may be you need to order from Abbott directly. Problem is, I couldn't find a way to order one on their Austrian website, perhaps it's prescription only?
Here is the website: https://www.freestyle.abbott/at-de/home.html anf the phone number for their customer service: 0800 93 00 93
On the German website it seemed to be easy to oorder, but I guess that would need an address to send it to in Germany: https://www.freestylelibre.de/produkte/freestyle-libre-2-sensor.html

I think what I would do in your situation is try Facebook to find some Austria diabetes groups to ask there.

Good luck!

Hi, thanks for your reply. We're going to call Abbot Austria first thing tomorrow and hopefully won't have to drive too far to get a sensor. Then I'm going to remind my son about the importance of always bringing a spare!!!

Hi, if anyone else ever has the same issue you can order the Libre sensors through an Austrian pharmacy. The trouble is they take a day or 3 to arrive and cost 144 Euros

Just a heads up, they may be geolocked? So you may need to download the Austrian app to use them....

Very unlikely within Europe. I've bought lots of French sensors and used them in the Netherlands without issue. I think it's just the US sensors that are different.

How far are you from France?
It's been a few years since I had to buy my sensors, but they were a lot cheaper than in the Netherlands (at the time it was 38 vs 60 euros), and you could simply buy them at every pharmacy.

We are a very long way from France. We've opted to pay 50 euros for some extra testing strips instead of paying for a sensor as we'll be home on Saturday, thank goodness
