Freestyle Libre + Type 2

Hi Folks

For context I'm T2, 41, not overweight, and take 1.5g SR metformin as well as linagliptin. Found out about 18 months ago.

My HbAC1 dropped rapidly after diagnosis due to medication and watching carbs. I also dropped a little bit too much weight, ending up with 30" waist jeans so the usual remission tips didn't help me too much (also investigated for LADA). I run at least 10km twice a week on hilly trails, and can often 'feel' that I am experiencing postprandial highs, confirmed by finger prick. Which makes me think that, as a runner, my AC1 average may be hiding some spikes. As such I've bought myself a freestyle libre as an experiment for a couple of weeks to share with the specialist and get some insight. Not obsessive, I just like to see the data to inform my management strategies.

My question here is, what kind of highs do others see on this? I've only been wearing it a day, but already interesting. The levels went up to 18.2 within an hour of breakfast (yes, it did contain carbs), but dropped pretty fast as a result of the linagliptin I presume. Then I had a good hard 1 hour run which put it down to 5.5 ish by noon. But back up to 12.5 after lunch, which is unusual after a run as the sensitivity is better.

Thanks for reading :)

The spikes you mention are a bit unusual given you mention the significant drop in HbA1c and these numbers do indicate that your suspicion is right. The spike to 18.2 after breakfast if it had high crabs, I think is still a bit on the higher side although you haven't mentioned what it was before the breakfast because if due to dawn phenomenon if BG was already say 12 and then you had high carb breakfast I wouldn't be so surprised that it went to 18.2 - that has happened with me in the initial days of experimenting with food where it went from 9 to 14.1 after I had coffee made with Oat Milk and 3 toasts of sourdough bread with butter. The spike from 5.5 to 12.5 at lunch time seems bit high too if the lunch was low carb but if high carb it would not be so surprising.
