Frequent urination

How long after overdoing carbs does it take for high blood sugar to manifest itself with frequent urination?

Have been running about every two hours today yet my pre-prandial at 6pm was 6.2, hardly excessively high.

Had run out of testing strips since friday so not sure if my BG was high earlier, but diet-wise would have had no reason to be high.

You'll get good days and bad days keep running to the toilet. My bg count is around yours but some days like you I have to keep going every 2 hours....sometimes every hour. Other days I can go 4-5 hours without going. :)

Are you sure that you are not running to the toilet more frequently because it is cold?!Because I certainly am,the cold always makes the kidneys work more!

Since i was diagnosed and my BG started dropping the toilet trips ceased, bout 5 hours has been the norm this past 3 weeks.....actually managed 8 hours unbroken sleep one night :)

 Never thought of that....just jumped to the diabetes conclusion

I'm laughing as I type this. I wondered to myself the other day "why am I feeling so cold and running to the toilet so much". Was thinking omg something wrong. Test kit came out, reading fine, then it dawned on me. It's winter and I don't have the heating on. Doh, course I am cold and running to the loo, I'm bloomin freezing. Don't worry, your not alone in thinking diabetes is to blame for everything.

Caitycakes x

within two weeks of diagnosis and reduction in carbs my daily 3 or 4 am trip to the loo was cancelled - phew! I can actually sleep through (if the boy allows) until 6.45 now *yay*

I was so cold yesterday I jumped to the "diabetes must be bad today" thing also, then realised the reason I couldn't type straight was that I hadn't put the radiator on in my office since moving the desk around *doik* ... does diabetes make you more forgetful and paranoid?? probably ;)

if my BG is over I WANT to go to the loo but don't have the energy to move! a dangerous situation I think you'll agree :)

I find this is (obv) much better than pre diagnosis but I too still tend to need to get up during the night.
In fact, for a few days I thought maybe BG was higher during the night because frequency was up(even though last test at 9.30am was only around 7). I decided to test during the night and it was 6.7 so according to the 4-7 fasting rule this should be fine.

My conclusions are that I think I just drink too much fluid during the day. In fact for hba1c clinic appt my urine sample was almost clear and I could see the nurse looking at me, obv suspected I had filled it from the tap  .
However, dont rule out a urine infection as a cause for this. I also believe they can be asymptomatic so if it continues to be a problem maybe just hand a sample to GP to check. Or, if you have ketoxstix, maybe check for nitrates in it (apparently a sign, GP often do dipstick tests in surgery to confirm if you have obvious symptoms but dont take my word for it, please)

Let the diabetes hypochondria begin!! I do think you are extra vigilant about your body post dx - and why shouldnt you be? ITs an autoimmune, systemic condition (for type 1 anyway) and related and leaves you vulnerable to all sorts of other nasties.

I knw what you mean about being more observant about your health after diagnosis. I'm the same and I'm down the doctors a lot more than before. I think they're going to put my name plaque on one of the chairs just for me. :D
Makes you want to take care of yourself more though, doesn't it? If only I could get rid of the depression I'd be happier. Better still get rid of all my problems but that's just being plain greedy!!

Excellent point!

Yes if you are sweating less and drinking the same, it has to go somewhere!

One of my less endearing characteristics, I don't necessarily pee more after my BG has gone high - until AFTER I went to bed. My nocturia will continue for several hours after a single spike over 8.
