Fruits

Hello there!
I would like to know whether fruits are a good idea to compensate for other snacks. I have usually avoided fruits all my life, because well I never liked them. Bt now that I've cut all sweets and carbs, I have decided to try them out and I guess they're not that bad :)
I'm talking about an apple and a banana a day not more... I do know that they contain sugar but being natural and all, was wondering whether anyone has included them in their diet.
tnx!

No. Won't and don't. You can test after trying them of course. Dicing with danger IMO

I have added a link to the article you asked about to make it easier for others to read and hopefully add their comments.
I don't often read studies like this because they either confuse or bore me. I had a quick look at this one and frankly thought it was rubish. 17 people had 20 portions of fruit a day (what fruit did they give them? Did any of the people have diabetes?)
I avoid fruit because my meter shows me how it impacts on my glucose levels. I have found that my meter tells me to avoid lots of food generally considered healthy by people who don't have T2

Agreed! This is a site promoting a rice and fruit diet and it is using this study to confirm what it wants to as frequently happens on both sides of the nutritional debate. We do not know what else the fruit eaters ate or did in their lives that may have influenced their health outcomes so it can only suggest areas for further research. Be your own experiment but if you don't like fruit be aware that everything you get in fruit is found in vegetables but minus the fructose/glucose which could make your liver fatter and your blood glucose higher. Nuts/cheese/olives (yes they are fruits!), meat could work better. Fruit is better than biscuits because it comes with fibre but in my view it has an undeserved health halo when it gets linked with veg!

Stick to 8 ish raspberries or blueberries in a soya or full fat yogurt, whipping cream if you're into that.
Try a small parm full of almonds or walnuts.

As @Rachox says, test with anything ending in berry, you will be surprised by the lack of sugar in these. It is worth noting that above ground vegetables whilst not as sweet tend to have all and then some of the nutrients in fruit, making fruit redundant except for some variety (but not necessity).

I have berries most days, with natural Greek yogurt and a variety of nuts, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.

Perhaps we should look at vitamins and fibre content while striving for a healthy diet. Also yes fruit shoots my blood sugars, but look at the vitamins.

All of which are probably unnecessary or available elsewhere...

Ahh perhaps I should have qualified my statement. Yes you can get the above elsewhere, but when diabetes is a minor health issue when you have a life threatening major issue on top of diabetes you look at a bigger picture. Fruit is quick, clean, full of vitamins also fructose for instant energy.

Possibly but do you really want all that fructose to go to the liver leading to NAFLD which can't be that good for you surely?

Moderation is the key, once in a while is ok. The real secret is balanced healthy diet. What really scares me is the the blinkered outlook that a few people develop. I think we are both " singing from the same song sheet " .

Indeed but the real problem is everyone has their own definition of a "balanced healthy diet" some of which are anything but..
I will confess to 80g of frozen raspberries last night but they were with full fat yoghurt and double cream so hopefully ok..
