Frustrated already

Hi @Lynn1

I always take the hard line first .... and then try out and see what they do. I'm OK with cashews (unsalted) but peanuts (at least for me) are not great.

You've summed it up perfectly. Careful steps at the outset. Late here but hope your knee is all good ?

Mike :)
Yes, my two 'new' knees are doing fine. I know from the first knee replacement, recovery is long and slow. I measure progress in terms of months rather than weeks. At least I am getting my life back now after hobbling around for a few years.

Thanks for asking - and what a good memory you have!

Hi to all the newbies. Yes, it is all very confusing. If you bear in mind that diabetes means we are glucose intolerant then the food you should avoid goes from there. All carbs are converted to glucose so they are best kept down. Wholemeal bread is broken down more slowly than white so doesn't spike so much but the carb content is still there. That applies to baked potatoes, pasta and so on. Fat may be high calorie but as diabetics we need to avoid carbs and not worry too much about calories. Proteins and fat are OK. A meter is essential and that wya you can determine what foods affect your blood sugar the most. You will find it is the carbs but the effect varies. The longer you are a diabetic the more you realise that that the diet that has been marketed to us over the last 30- 50years is seriously bad and the experts on health have based their thinking on bad or no science so they aren't experts after all. The argument against diet coke is that the artificial sweeteners make your brain go for sweet foods. As usual there is very little science behind this; same for the 'aspartame is bad' mantra. Diet Coke is fine so enjoy it and it far less poisonous than the sugar we have been drowning in for so long (oh, and all the carbs)
