Could scream at lack of good control bearing in mind ive been doing this for years but have hit a wall
Last night 2 hours post meal was 8.1 just about acceptable wtih 2 hours of insulin still working then! 11.8 by bedtime having eaten nothing furthur and only water to drink
3 months ago began metformin again and needed half the usual insulin but its as if i have not taken any now and have gained 5-6 pounds in weight ,thought met made for a weight loss
Thanks for letting me have a moan but feel so at a loss for a solution

Did you eat a high fat meal? This can cause blood sugars to peak later.

If you ate low carb and high protein this can also have the effect of blood sugars increasing later than expected

Not very high fat but yes that could be it
Also feeling very hungry even rumbling and 5 hours post meal am not at the 5-6 mark but 7-8 so there is something changing

If you get a rise in BG levels it is either because you have eaten something or because your metabolism has released some, possibly by breaking down stored fat.

As has been pointed out, peoples' metabolisms are different and they produce different amounts of several enzymes which work on different foods eaten. Taking metformin too complicates the picture. That's why either fasting blood plasma or HBA1c are tests prefered by physicians, because they have fewer complicating factors. It is frustrating that you can't get to see a clear picture of what is going on but it's not your fault and nor does it have to indicate loss of control. It's to do with the complex interaction between a number of processes. Even if you eat nothing and go to bed and do nothing, your BG can still go up.

I seem to be having that problem, too. My blood sugars can be in the 1's one minute and in the 20's the next. It always makes me really frustrated, like for example the other night my brother could have chocolate, but my blood sugars were too high. I find the best thing that helps is just having a cry, either privately or to a parent/guardian. I hope my advice helps, and if you ever need a chat feel free to private message me :)
