Wanted to have a slight moan at myself and life with this disease. Feeling fed up after returning from holiday and reviewing my blood sugars. Apart from the odd test they have been well above 10 for the entire trip.

Firstly as I went with my 5 year old daughter I did intent on keeping them slightly elevated as didn't want to risk hypo especially during the night.

However I am just frustrated that while I did my usual carb counting at meals because I wasn't as strict in terms of measurements and what I was eating that my sugars were through the roof. Prior to this I have put alot of effort in to improving my hba1c and my recent results reflected that.

Just feeling fed up that because I have a different week not as fully focused my sugars rocketed. Do I have to be on top of the game all the time?? Well I know the answer to this but it doesn't help me getting frustrated. Another mini break this weekend then back to normal.

Don't really have a point to this thread just wanted to share frustration. On the plus side it was a fab week away. Just wish it didn't come with the expense of destroying my body lol

Don't worry @Hattonma , many of us are totally with you on this. Holidays are always a problem for me, I start off with all good intentions then I share a bit of the wife's ice cream, can't find anything I like on the menu that isn't carb heavy and there you go, blood glucose constantly up and down for the remainder of the trip.

I'll be in Italy in October, - gelato, pasta and pizza, oh dear!

Hi @Hattonma.
You was on holiday with your 5 yr old daughter and you had a fab week away.
Well done, you prioritised, you put life before diabetes, you had a good time.
Me and my wife took our 2 grandchildren away for a week's holiday recently. Sugars all over the place but I survived and back to normal now.
Memories.............. well they are brilliant, kids, beaches, arcades, ice cream the list is endless. As for the diabetes, it went on holiday with me but that's all it did.

I decided not have kids or wife i only can take care with myself

Do I have to be on top of the game all the time??

No. Simple as that. There will always be weeks where we can't predict things, don't know what the carbs are ect. You had fun with your little girl and your diabetes did not interfere. It is better to stay a little out number wise than end up in A&E in a country where you don't know the language, where your child will end up ect. Sometimes the 'rules' suggest a perfect world but we don't live in that world. Get back on track, share all your fab pics to fb if you have it and enjoy your holiday. :)
