Hi
Been 10 years type 2, diet controlled ....until last 6 months.
Now taking 750 mg of SR metformin.
Hb1ac at 52.

Just been tested for GADs.....result 1500.....panic!
Doctor little experience of this.
Awaiting hospital referral.

Concerned.
Anyone similar or can offer advice?
Presume I am type 1 and will now be needing insulin sooner rather than later.
Thanks
Keith

That's so typical for LADA, to be first misdiagnosed as Type 2. After the initial shock, you will see that your control will improve with insulin. Good luck!

I'm currently waiting for the GADs and c-peptide results and been on insulin for all of 6 days now! Certainly, LADA is 99% the correct diagnosis in the mind of the consultant and questions are being asked about why, with what I initially presented with, this wasn't checked for when I was first diagnosed.

I can see already when I'm allowed to adjust the dose to suit what I eat rather than the fixed doses it will help my control enormously which I am looking forward to happening.

I must ask if I've had mine tested and their results. ;)
I'm glad you know. A nasty surprise with a coma, if not picked up?

I'm on insulin due to severe IR and intolerance to tablets.
After bariatric op specialist expects basal insulin and metformin.
I want to get rid of basal but low carb currently no help. Low carb stops high bgs thou, especially accumulative ones and very high fbg. So maybe op may change that for me.
I live in hope.
Ps. They may continue monitoring you if good on diet only. For now.
Don't worry about insulin it avoids so many nasties for you. You're in great hands.
So many on insulin now.

I continually ask myself this. My suspicion is that it is financial. A bit gloomy

The tests aren't routinely done due to cost, GP ignorance and very few labs that can do the tests.
