Hi All!
First post, and firstly may I say this is a fantastic forum for all info!
Just 2 weeks officially diagnosed with type 2 and have got more info here than my visits to GP and Nurse..so keep up the good work!

So my question is as I am really trying hard to do the No Carbs, I am really missing "Meat" I am eating fish on most days, no carbs whatsoever, and have completely cut out all and every form of Sugar other than natural in berries etc..
I am eating Venison sausages, and Rabbit stew with veg only, so what's the story on Game meats in general?
Thanks in advance for your replies!
Tom.

Hi Tom, any proper meat and poultry is fine :) Just watch processed meats as some do contain carbs. Gluten free sausages are carb free though.

Generally All meats are low in carbohydrates. If you are following a low-carb diet, you want to choose the lowest carb options. Carbohydrates are most prevalent in grains, cereals, breads, fruits and sugars. Some meats do have naturally occurring carbs or added fillers or sugars that may raise their carbohydrate count. I'm unsure of game meats but from what I can tell they would be the same as any other meat as far as carbohydrates are concerned protein and fat are of course another matter.

Welcome to the forum:). You really don`t have to miss out on meat, as others have said be careful of the processed stuff but apart from that you are basically looking at protein and fat. How much protein you eat is for you to find out as protein can be converted to glucose but usually not too much of a problem, as far as fat is concerned there are, as usual, different schools of thought but the hf in lchf stands for high fat. Where blood glucose is concerned the best bit of advice I have had on this forum is get a meter and eat to it, test, test test. Wishing you the very best of luck and never be afraid to ask questions! Chris.

Game is usually lower fat than farm raised meats.

Other than that not a load of difference.

Unless you are a vegetabletarian Meat will form a large part of a Low Carb diet.

I don't eat the normal red meats pork lamb beef or sausages made from them simply because I don't like them so just eat mostly chicken but I will eat venison and ostrich. Basically any meat and high meat content sausages that you enjoy are fine to eat on a low carb diet .Did you actually mean you are trying to do "no carbs" as that would be quite difficult although we do have one member that does that but what most do here is more low to medium carbs and higher fat

Thanks all! Just started testing yesterday, and today after breakfast of One Wild Venison Sausage and one slice of Wholegrain bread 9.2 ! Shock !
Just now tested after lunch of Rabbit stew with only Veg, carrots, celery, onions and herbs, only 7.1 happy with that so reckon even Wholegrain bread is out for me

@Pinkorchid yes trying to do no carbs for next month or so anyway, as need to lose a few stone...6'1" and 17 .6 ...too many Guinness over the years! Don't have a sweet tooth , hardly ever eat chocolate and very very rarely would have sweet drinks, Coke etc..thinking white bread, pasta, white rice , Chips, too big portions my downfall, so new chapter ahead!

Hi Tom, have a look at burgen bread make sure you buy the soya and linseed variety. Also remember Rome wasn't built in a day so results won't be perfect from day one but will improve as you find what suits your body best.

Most unprocessed forms of meat, poultry, and fish contain few or no carbs, but even above ground and leafy vegetables and berries will contain some, and these are really an essential part of a LOW carb diet, for the vitamins, minerals, and fibre they contain. So I'd also question what you mean by "NO carbs" - as you say you're eating berries and vegetables and a NO carbs diet would actually cut these out completely?

The carbohydrates you should be avoiding, or at least be wary of and test for, are those found in all sugary foods and drinks, and starchy foods - all bread, pastry, flour, pasta, rice, whether they be white or brown, cereals, potatoes and other starchy root vegetables.

No carbs would mean no plant derived food of any kind, which is perfectly doable, but may not be what you want to do. Just cutting out rice, grains, starchy veg, fruit, and sugar should suffice.

I have gluten free sausages so they are not all carb free, 5 carbs per sausages.

The plain sausages in most cases are less than 1 carb per sausage. Flavoured ones yes plenty of carbs in them. Try the Black farmers sausages :)
