Garmin watch &780g Minimed

Is there a garmin watch that will show what my BS are ? I am using 780g Medtronic pump , my pump can be underneath clothing and I am unable to have a phone visible at work , so thought if I got a garmin watch and linked it to pump ( not even sure if smart watch can show data) it would be so easy and discreet, but give me reassurance . Or if anyone could recommend a watch which is not expensive. Many thanks

Basically no…. It can be done with lots of fuss you can find a method to upload to Nightscout then find an app or method to send that to the watch

The only watch there is an actual app for is the Apple Watch but this still need the phone it does not connect to the pump


The best way is to either rely on the pump for the data.. or discuss the importance of the phone to the company or even see if occupational health can advise the company of the importance of the phone

I don't have a pump but do use XDrip+ and have a Garmin Fenix and bike headunit, both of which can show my data.

I could be totally wrong but the 780g pump @alohanicky2009 uses work with a Guardian 4 sensor.?
Which from what I see would mean for now would need a switch to the Apple “ecosystem” for the readings to be practically run on a watch.

I’m a Libre & Galaxy watch man myself using Juggluco & xDrip.
Oddly, using Juggluco on wear OS it is possible to negate the need for a phone after starting the sensor & run it straight to the watch..

You're very probably right, I've not looked very hard, but I'd be surprised if there weren't a way to do it (though it may be hacky)

You CAN use xdrip but does not direct connect there is a method that xdrip can log into carelink and get the data

Once in xdrip the data can be sent to Nightscout or any other app that can recover data from xdrip. So I’ve successfully run on Samsung watches even though there is no app and it worked quite well. I’ve not used garmin but I have read others have has Nightscout reading on them. But not as easily as with apple

And again there are method for apple users to get data to Nightscout too


Thing is though doing because you can use the phone there are options there too

1 you have the pump screen to look at

2 companies are ‘required’ to make reasonable adjustments for people with long term conditions…. And a reasonable adjustment would be to allow the use of a mobile phone ‘only’ for the purpose of check and controlling that condition

So don’t spend lots of money on tech you may not want and may have to cobble a way to use when (2) above is (almost) legally required in all but the most dangerous of environments

I've not used Apple, but I'd be surprised if it's actually easier than the single Garmin step that is required - once data is available in XDrip+ it's just a case of installing a watchface/datafield (via the Garmin Connect app) and the data is provided on the Garmin device. There's no need for a Nightscout server/setup, it can all be done on the phone via the localhost XDrip+ webserver.

It does sound like there are potentially some hoops to jump through to get the data from CareLink and into XDrip+ though, but again I've never tried so perhaps this is also a very easy step (though it does require an internet connection, which is a shame)

Totally agree on point 2. I managed with just my phone in companies that had a “digital distraction” policy.
Seemed pretty draconian. Until I pointed out, “what about CGM users?”
Once explained what a CGM does. I sold it as a form of “PPE” under the guidance of reasonable adjustments in the workplace..

After a bit of research on the limitations of devices. It can be possible to pick up a decent “flagship” for a fraction of the price when first released, due to consumers passing them over for later releases?

I have enough bother just getting my pump to connect to my phone with the Medtronic app. And yes my phone is supported.
