Hi all,

I hope someone could offer me some advice. I had gestational diabetes in my recent pregnancy as well as previous pregnancies. This time round it was very difficult to control and was on over 100 units of insulatard a day.

I’m now 23 weeks post birth and feel like something is going on. I’ve just had my HBA1C come back normal, but I’m having high blood sugar readings. My fasting bs is between 6.3-6.9, my after meals between 7.4-8.5 and if I have a piece of fruit or sugar in my tea it shoots up to 8.9.

I don’t understand if my HBA1C came back normal why are my readings so high? Should I be seeing my GP about this?

any help would be great.
Thanks

Do you happen to know what the HbA1c result was? Your response to fruit and sugar seems relatively normal. Over-all numbers a tad higher than one would expect. Often a HbA1c that is prediabetic doesn't even get a mention because they don't start treating/medicating until thoroughly diabetic. With GD your body let you know early you're predisposed to T2, so... Try and head it off before it gets that far, maybe?

Good luck!

What was the hba1c result? (In case prediabetic range) They should test you yearly now to check that you don’t get diabetes. I had gestational twice...then prediabetic...then told type 2...nothing worked, had tests and now type 1 on insulin daily...all over ten years. So having had gestational I would say you need keep watch for any signs blood sugars are rising over time. As you are at a increased risk of diabetes. Your numbers don’t look that high to me after eating. Fruit and 9 is ok, if it comes back down again before your next meal. I was getting readings of 12-24. Fasting is in range too. 5-8. If you notice lots symptoms thirst, waking wee in night lots, tiredness etc may be worth asking gp for another test.

Have you been following a low carb diet recently? Your fasting numbers are in the prediabetic range. I’d make changes to my diet if I were you, as a precautionary measure. I’m doing the same :)
