Getting into ketosis

Bother! Managed over a month with really good keto eating then last Saturday night had the pizza/icecream combo. But got straight back on it Sunday. Overall bg well controlled, type 2 no meds, coming up to 2 years since diagnosis.
Tested for ketones today - showed a small amount. Presumably this will show a large amount when I get fully onto ketosis?
Also if I'm usually v low carb, do you think the time to get back into ketosis varies? Clearly I want to stay in it, but I haven't been a perfect diabetic but have made considerable effort (still 20lbs lighter than on diagnosis)

I just used urine Ketone test strips. Should I be testing blood? I only test bg intermittently with a freestyle libre every few months to keep me on the straight and narrow
Urine sticks tend not to register over time you’d be better getting the free blood ketones tester meter careens sens duo from spirit healthcare
http://spirit-healthcare.co.uk/product/caresens-dual-blood-glucose-and-ketone-meter/
It comes with two free strips but any more cost 10 pounds for a pack of 10 with free delivery - but you don’t need to test very often. You can also use this meter to test your bgs too or not as you choose.
I now don’t register any ketones on ketostix after nearly 10 months on keto but on my meter I register at least 1.6 most days when check which I do about once a week. I find it reassuring.
Gather you can buy something to test ketones with Libre but don’t know anything about Libre as never used it.
Good luck you are probably still in ketosis it’s just you don’t spill ketones into your urine when you are an adapted fat burner!

If you have the Libre reader, then you can also use this as a normal meter which will work with both blood glucose and ketone test strips - look for Freestyle Optium β [beta] ketone test strips. These are quite expensive so it's worth shopping around for them.

Once your body gets fully accustomed to burning ketones, the amount measurable in the blood, or the telltale fruity breath both noticeably drop.
