I have been low carbing at max 100g per day for a month and more before that, and am finding my sugars down to 4-6 before meals. My doctor insists I should keep on with 80g gliclacide x2 per day plus metformin, but I often feel faint when driving home from work. My HbA1C has come down from 90 to 74 to 62over the last year. Does anyone have experience of hypos with low carbing on glic?

@Suzanne616 I can't advise on the gliclazide, but if you're feeling faint when driving, then you should test before you start off and make sure you're at least 5. I personally like to be at least 6. If your journey is long, you should retest to make sure all's ok.

Did the doctor know you were restricting carbs when they told you to carry on with the Gliclazide?

Will tag my husband @eldergarth who can help you.

You really should tell your doctor about feeling faint when driving (and azure is right -- you really should test before driving). Lowering your gliclazide is the obvious solution, but why not propose to your doctor that you stop taking one of the daily doses on a trial basis while testing, so that when you next meet him/her you can assess the impact. That way the doctor will still feel in control but you also have some data for assessing what to do re dosage.

Hi sue I was on gliclacide when was first diagnosed with hba1c 138 got it down to 67 but started having hypos every day .
They are good at getting your levels down quick but once you lchf they do and can cause hypos so while still taking them test your BG's 15 min before you drive and aim to be in the 6's as it states on the dvla web site and tell your doc that you have reduced your carb intake and ask about having the glicacide reduced

Yes, I get hypos if I go too low and my diabetic nurse said it is down to the gliclazide. When I have very good control - in the 5s, I drop from 2 tablets to one. When I am not having good control - over 7s - I go back to 2 tablets.
