Hi, long story short, I was recently, as in the last 2 weeks, put on Glicliside to get my very high blood sugars down. I'm type 2 around 5 days after starting i noticed my vision is blurry, to the extent that dont consider it safe to drive. I have read online that this is due to the lens adjusting to the lower blood sugars and is temporary. My question is has any one experianced this, and how long did it last?

I had blurred vision when my numbers were coming down. It’s advised not to get new glasses until your BG has settled down

I have. As the concentration of glucose in bodily fluids changes the refractive index of the fluids in the eye, plus cornea and lens, also changes, so sharpness of vision can change. You tend not to notice when concentrations are increasing, as its relatively slow, but when it falls the change can be quite quick.

Mine changed and settled, changed and settled, for about three months as my BG fell, but I don't know if the "settling" bit was me getting used to it or no change happening. Now that my BG is both normal and stable, my vision hasn't shifted significantly (ie needing a new prescription) in nearly six years.

This happened to me too as my blood glucose was coming down. I can't remember the timescale but it sorted itself out. I wasn't on Glic but a mixture of low carb/keto and Metformin

I remember when I was first diagnosed as diabetic I changed my diet very quickly and very soon after this- probably a few weeks , I could hardly see ! ( to my utter horror ) and I had to wear two or three pairs of spectacles !
Eventually my poor blurry vision settled, cleared and got back to "normal" - it was to do with the glucose changing the lens shape of the eye etc.
Hopefully this will reassure you ?
Good luck.

My eyes went blurry before I was diagnosed and that was the kick I needed to go to the doctors. My HBA1C was 126 and I was put onto Gliclizide and Metformin - they did consider going straight to insulin. Your eyes go blurry because high blood sugar draws water out of your body - it's why you need to pee so much - but it also draws water out of the lenses in your eyes. It affected my distance vision first.

Once I was on medication the problem started to affect my close vision to the point I couldn't read or see my phone screen etc. I was able to see long distances without glasses for the first time since I was 18!

It settled down to my pre-vision affected prescription after a couple of months, maybe a bit less, so it is temporary.

Hi @Defiant_Turtle2026 from personal experience it can last a few months, 3 for me others above have said around the same.
It's very disconcerting if you don't know what happening I arranged an eye test Optician said there was a slight change nothing to worry about rescheduled an appointment for 3 months later to ensure there were no long lasting issues. There weren't.

It feels weird you can tell the change in your eyesight reading, working on the computer or watching TV(in your case driving) but it sorts its self out in time. I don't think anyone else has mentioned this I found during that time I had a constant headache, due to eye strain.

Just incase you are feeling the same it eventually went away.
:bag:

Tghis happened to me also once my numbers fell to decent levels, I was very very scared my DN dodnt tell me about this and I learnt from this site and asking an optician
she said do not have an eye test until you know it has stopped. It took 3 or 4 weeks I think when I went for my eye screening I was very nervous toom which came back as fine. Insulins and then metformin (no longer on metformin)
