I am fuming
I am really really ****** off at these moneygrabbing gits in big pharma and how they profit from our misery.
after being told by gp that I was at risk of diabetes at hac1 6.4mmol. She gave me no advice apart from cut out sugars. Thats it. Nothing else. Disgusting lack of professionalism. Luckily....
I was given an accu check compaxt plus by my aunt whos husband died and had diabetes. It came with lots of test strips.
I truly truly would not hsbe been able to get these good results without monitoring my blood glucose 5 times a day to see exactly where I waa going wrong snd what the pstterns were.
I have run out of stirps!!! Gutteeeeddd!!!
£22 for 50 test strips!!!???
it robbery!
They are on the nasdaq now because of us.
why have gps stopped giving outvtest strips ever since they were given control of thier budgets?? Its not fair.
Im not diabetic so wouldnt qualify for it with gp anyway.
I think at the very least pre diabetes people should be given monitors and prescriptions so we can stop it in its tracks. I truly think having strips on prescription is essential@ how can we afford all this expense! ?
Rant not over.
over and out

Sadly, it is a fact of life for most of us not reliant on insulin to self fund our meters and strips, but the ones you have are outrageously expensive. There are cheaper options. Many of us use the Codefree available from http://homehealth-uk.com/product-category/blood-glucose/ If you buy 5 or 10 boxes there are discount codes meaning you can purchase them for under £6 for 50.

I have an Accu-Chek check nano and pay between £8 - £12.00 for 50 from e-bay. My last lot were £42.00 for 200 strips Inc postage.

Hi @Stevia_queen I know we moan about not getting test strips on prescription, but I suppose it is understandable if some who get them don't use them.
I think pre-diabetics and T2s who request them should get prescriptions as they are obviously making an effort to control their condition, and will save the NHS money if they can avoid medication and ongoing complications.
I use the Accu Chek Mobile meter and the tests cost around £23 for a 50 test cartridge from Accu Chek. It is actually cheaper to buy a new meter with 50 tests at around £20, than just to buy a cartridge of 50 tests. But you can buy 2 cartridges with 100 tests on ebay for around £20. I bought 4 cartridges with 200 tests for £26 a couple of weeks ago.

Hi alll yes I bought 100 for £24 a few days ago and I am waiting for it to arrive on thursday hoping my nloods habe been in check meanwhile. I guess ill have to go on the hunt every week for bargains. Im not hsppy to buy a new meter just to get it for 20 plus 50 strips seems like such a waste! But I completely understand that it is cheaper. They hook u in with a cheap meter because thwy know they will get millions via test strips. Corporste plan...
1. Ensure loads of suagr and processed foods are pushed on public.
2. Get them sick
3. Offee the free testcstrips and monitors
4 stop giving free stuff on mhs so we can now continue making money from customers directly.
5. Repeat as necessary

thanks I know u all understand.
but w8th all the supplements and helathy foods this is getting expensive! Ita cheaprr to be sick! Painful and heart wrenching. .. but cheaper for us slaves.... Roger that over n out xxx

I think we should start a petition to raise this issue in parliament. For pre diabtetics to beloaned a monitor and test strips. If their hac1 doesnt come down within first 4 months they will not be given anymore prescriptions test strips. If thwy contcontnue the prescriptions will too.

thankyou Bluetit1802 u are always so helpful. Not sure im willing to waste a monitor nut I wil monitor costs over next few weeks xxx

I'm insulin resistant pre diabetic. I get 50 strips every 28 days. All my GP asks is I drop in 28 days worth of readings for her to view when I request next prescription. If I'm unwell and go through more she'll issue am extra script of them. I live in Wales.
