Hi Everyone

Not been on here for a while but do look in sometimes to see if I am able to give any of my wisdom now and then. My question is James is wanting to go for an Indian meal with his mates as a few of them are having a combined 17th birthday meal. Rather than be left out and if the Indian restaurant cannot accommodate him (which I worry if they say they can!!!!) does anyone know of a supermarket that does a ready made type of indian meal that I could possibly give to them to heat up for him so that he can go along and not be left out.

Alternatively a quick and easy gluten free recipe for a curry that maybe someone on here has done themselves and know it is good. I do make curry, tikka myself with Quorn at home but thought he would like to try something different. A shot in the dark I know. I have emailed the restaurant and am waiting a reply.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

I thought curries were relatively ok, what is the specific problem?

If you make it with Quorn its not Gluten free??

Ilumi is a good bet but if i were him i would just go for a curry, I've never had a problem as long as you avoid naan popadoms and deep fried stuff.

I'd probably go for one of the tandoori dishes and then take my own curry sauce. Rice will be OK too.

I think Tesco do gluten-free naan bread, but too risky to let the restaurant warm it up in case of contamination.

A lamb saag - the thickener in a saag is the onions and spinach - at least it SHOULD BE! so it should be gluten free or a tandori - just spices and yogurt.

I think you may have a probelm asking the restaurant if you can take in your own food to be heated up. Not because you are not buying anything from them but because it opens them up to all sorts of problems, wait and see what they say they should be able to make your son a gluten free meal - hope he has a good time! :)

OMG I have just read the packet of Quorn again and although it does not contain gluten it does handle gluten products. James seems ok with these type of foods as long as there is not gluten wheat etc in the ingredients.

Just looked up a website about Indian Restaurant cooking and saw the following
gluten/wheat products
Obviously avoid all of the breads. Avoid samosas as the pastry is made from wheat flour. Most restaurants use ground nuts for extra thickening so you should be safe with most dishes on the menu. Onion bhajees and pakoras should be OK as they are usually made with gram (lentil) flour as are poppadoms.

Downloaded the Restaurant Menu and James fancies the Lamb Tikka Massala and rice or the Lamb Biryani served with veg curry. Anyone ever had these We have always avoided the Indian takeaways thinking everything had wheat flour/starch in them for thickening. Should have investigated!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for replies I will also take a visit there to speak beforehand

I would still avoid the deep fried stuff as it is all thrown in together causing cross contamination. just have curry and rice and ask for a couple of popadoms to be fried seperately if you can.
