Hi, I was diagnosed back at the end of January. I have lost 1 stone in weight, my glucose levels were going down and the weight was coming off, until recently that is.

I follow a lower carb diet, but I'm not on metformin. My blood glucose levels are now in the high 6's sometimes in the 7's after a meal whereas before they were in the 5's and lower 6's. Also my weight loss has practically slowed to nothing, although I have cut back on my food even more, and to be honest, I really don't think I can cut it back any further. I also exercise twice a day for 30 minutes - I can't do more as I suffer from arthritis, but I need to lose perhaps another 10 lbs.

I do have hypothyroidism, so I'm wondering if that may be part of the problem, although I've just had it tested and Dr says it fine. Could it be that my diabetes is getting worse in such a short time? I have done all I can to keep it within levels, and now I'm really struggling.

Any thoughts or advice would be welcome, thanks.

If you've lost a full stone in just three months, I'd say that was too much too quickly. There is no point in starving yourself to loose weight because your body will be almost in famine/starvation mode, thus giving you some of the results you are observing.
I was warned about this and told to loose a little weight gradually and to aim for an average of 2lbs per month.
I followed the advice and over time I found it to be very sound advice as my body slowly adapted to the gradual but progressive weight loss that has stayed off without feeling exceptionally hungry all the time.

However, I did struggle at first and found it much easier when I started to watch my carbs and eating to my meter results

Thanks for replying.

I don't really think that's a terribly quick weight loss, pretty steady I would say, certainly not as much as some of the people on here, but I do take your point about losing weight and keeping it off - that's always the hardest part! :?

However, It's still worrying that after my glucose levels staying steady, though not as low as I would wish, they are on an upwards spiral is really confusing.

Yes, I'm watching what I eat, using my meter regularly, but although by no means excessively high, I was really hoping to get my blood sugars lower. Perhaps after reading about so many successful diabetics on here, I was expecting too much, and I guess everyone is different.
