hi, I started really bad of course when diagnosed 5 months ago, terrible diet bgs mid twenties etc etc, taken diabetes really seriously and lost loads of weight doing loads of exercise eating 30g carbs a day etc etc, bgs were between 3-5 all day every day so this is very motivating, I am doing the right things and bgs are doing what they should when you do the right thing, well things are slowly getting worse from a bg point of view, ive gone from 3-5 to 5-6 then 6-7 now 8-9....im still eating good still low carbing working hard and execising bp still great, but bgs are getting worse :( any idea why this may be? please, thankyou

I know my numbers aren't too bad compared to some others but they are going the wrong way and im running out of changes I can make :(

Can't really help but I'm a year into this and find the whole thing very confusing. Conflicting information at every turn.
From what I've read on this site alone I've come to the conclusion there isn't a straight smooth run with diabetes.
I often chuck the towel in and think stuff it I'm going to ignore it and just live as normally as possible and reasonably sensibly ... and that's when I seem to be at my best!
That's not a recomendation ... don't try this at home folks!

Thankyou for replying, "stuff it" sounds pretty good at the moment :(

Hey Andy

My first thought is that between 3-5mmol, which your bg initially was, is borderline hypo and leaves very little headroom for eventualities.
Were you generally feeling well with bg at 3-5 or were you often dizzy/tired/moody or unable to think properly?
What im thinking is, unless you changed your diet to include more carbs, your liver is trying to compensate for continually low bg.

If the transition is slow, your body can start tapping into the liver reserves once it deems the blood glycose is getting too low (threshold varies from person to person, and 3mmol is a bit early for the liver to step in). You will most likely feel some nausea from 10-15 min beside being hungry, but from there you'll start feeling better again when the reserves are released.

It's the only explanation I can think of at the moment, partly because I have experienced similar odd bg increases when I was in late puberty doing Mixtard.

hi thankyou, I am type 2 and on 4xmetformin a day only for diab, I was 3.1 to 3.5 all day at work upto a couple of weeks ago but never had any ill effects whatsoever, I do get very dizzy when ive been bending down to the point I was bent down reading labels in the supermarket the other day and was so dizzy I actually thought I was going to hit the floor but that happens all the time regardless of bg or if ive just eaten or not so as long as I remember not to stay low too long its fine, ive checked my bp straight after this dizziness and its fine so I don't know what that is and now bgs are up it hasn't gone away, sorry if this is boring....

yesterday I ate natural fage yogurt with berries for brekkie then an atkins bar for lunch then steak asparagus and mushrooms for dinner at 6pm followed by my normal jelly and double cream my bg by 8 was 7.1 them each hour it rose until 9.1 by midnight, I went to work until lunchtime then cut the grass in the garden cut down bushes etc, walked the dog a couple of miles at 8pm just when I think it should be going down its going up, I was really looking forward to hba1c on the 24th for my pat on the back from the doc but now its going to be terrible :(

sorry for moaning im just gutted

You are 'not' moaning at all :)

This heat can and does affect our BG levels .
With some it can go upwards with others it can go downwards
Many people young/old can be affected with other conditions in the heat .
Keeling over and hurting themselves .
[last week in my Tesco two people collapsed - one a diabetic , the other an epileptic ]
Paramedic's told me they see it 'more' often in the hot/warmer weather .

As hard as we may try - it can just do its own thing
I know - it certainly makes it harder to fathom and deal with things!

Sure your not cooking anything up ?
A bug? hayfever? infection? or even stress can impact on your BG's too .
Worrying about things can impact as a form of stress .

Sometimes even though you are eating all that usually keeps your BG levels lowered .
It isn't enough when other things 'still' impact and will raise them up .
Despite your very best efforts .
It is gutting - I understand ...

I would suggest if by tomorrow you are still feeling very dizzy with raised BG's ?
Pop along to see your own GP and explain/discuss with them .
Mention the heat too if you wish or feel it is a factor .
Your GP should take this into account with you .

Let us know how things go too .

Anna.

No Andy, dont give up, its the heat, my usually very stable bg runs from 4.5 to never higher than 6.5, for the last week I have been down here in London (brother lives in Wimbledon) and its boiling hot down here, oh for some sea breeze......
My bgs have been higher all week, today I hit a 7.5, something that I havent seen for a very long time, next week I am back up in Whitby, I know my bg levels will return to normal, its happened like this before, am not stressing.

Hang in there, hopefully all will return to your usual levels, although 3.5 is too low, dont drive a car or operate machinery on that, please.

Wish you and yours all the best

Hi Andy honestly you are not moaning and don't be gutted, it's just a glitch, a blip a small pimple that will, eventually go away. It could be the hot weather, yesterday ( down at the seaside) my BS was 4.7, 4.6, then took 2 units less for lunch because of the very hot weather, at home , dinner time, it was 13.4   I went to bed on 8.0 and woke up on 2.8 :( I'm Type 1 though and it is a big pain at times. Hang on in there Andy and try to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Best wishes RRB

thankyou all, I didn't think I could feel any worse.....this afternoon we have been to a christening (boring enough) but then there was a reception in a pup with the best spread I ever saw and there was tonnes of it, free bar etc, oh wow I sat and drank my water, this is my lowest point, no doubt

always someone worse off always someone worse off always.......

Andy - when it gets like this .
Try and picture in your mind - the rest of us doing the same with you ...

This way you really are not alone - we have the same journey and similar routine/needs as yours

I do this mind over matter thing - when the rough times happen .
It gives me a sense that I am never alone.
Like - in a social situation where I can never really join in with a buffet/pub/event setting .

We are doing a wedding day/night receptions in 4weeks and I will be doing this there .
Sipping my slimline tonic waters with lots of ice/lemon slices in them!
Avoiding the evening buffet if have to .

Actually the brides father is a diabetic [on insulin too]
So I can sit with him eh - possibly thinking about it

Anna.

Hi, sorry, your right of course, I'm really lucky in so many ways I'm ashamed of my previous posts, I've been reading lots of posts and need a slap for being so self absorbed, thank you all, really glad to have so many team mates :)

I didn't realise you're type 2, I selfishly assumed it was type 1
I can't honestly give you any advice on how to deal with the recent bg changes...zero experience with type 2. I really do hope someone can even though the answer might be many-fold.
Regardless of which, soldier on
