My flatmate. :D
There hasn't been a day since I've shot up to at least 20 the past month. (Well, maybe the odd day I haven't.) I'm not high all the time THANK GOD, and I'm usually between 5 and 12, but for one part of the day I jump up to 20. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong exactly, I don't snack on bad food, and I'm even trying to cut back on carbs (eating less bread for example). It seems any little mistake, I just shoot up unbelieveably high (don't inject my glargine at the right time, have one more piece of toast than I should etc.). If I ever made a "mistake" in the past, I might've gone high, but no way nearly as high as 20... Being above 16 or so was so rare, but now it's become a daily occurrence... It must be down to my insulin sensitivity, and how little exercise I've done the past month (I just moved back to NZ for a bit, and my daily routine has changed). I used to go running every so often. But surely that can't be the only reason? Or is it? I hope anyway, so all I'll have to do is go for a run every second morning...

Ah, I'm just feeling so depressed from it all, this is probably more of a rant. :(

My sleeping pattern is a bit messed up too (stuck on student hours still), so I wonder how that affects everything. But I just can't remember a time where I've struggled SO MUCH to control my levels. I hate it! :(

I've read a lot of sites (lost count of them to be quite honest) and I stand to be corrected by those far more experienced than I'll ever be, but the word "bread" sounds some bells. What type of bread, how much per day and has the rest of your diet varied from what you've been doing?

Good luck :)

Hi, I'm from the big Isl. you need to go chasing sheep, like the other kiwis:) my pleb guess is your basal needs adjusting for reducing your exercising
Basal testing

this might help as well
There is an online course for background and an idea to it. Free to register

This set of workbooks are worth reading and practising working examples of carbs and doses and corrections. Don't change dose without nurse approval

The lack of exercise will be a major factor in your high bg levels and it's no coincidence that your levels have gone up since you stopped running. When your not active your basal insulin needs will increase as will the amount of insulin you take at meal times, I'm sure you know already that when you do go out for a run you reduce your bolus dose to the level and duration of the exercise.

I would either start your exercise again or look at your insulin requirements so that you get your bg levels under control again, but try not to stress about things as stress can also lead to elevated bg levels.

The following is an on-line version of the DAFNE course, you do have to register first but by all accounts it's very good and should be of some use:

Changes with routine and regime can knock everything out of sequence .
It is the confused sense of redirection that makes it feel so much more
harder and complex !
No wonder you are feeling down about things .

Maybe write a list of the easiest and most enjoyable things to do .
Use these as a reference point - to get back on track with sort of thing .
Use as a route and way back to see positive results .

Some great replies and links to look at above .
Start with a few small steps and see where it leads ?
Go easy on yourself too - stress can make things feel much worse
plus raise the BG levels .

Do let us know how things progress also .
One persons journey can help so many others .

Do you carb count and adjust your ratios? I have different ratios for insulin for different meal times could be that you need something similar? Look for any patterns and if going high at the same sort of time each day up your insulin ratio for the meal prior to going high. Also exercising when blood already in the teens will push your bg higher! Hope this helps?
