Going on holiday

I'm type 2 and am going to Florida for 2 weeks soon. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on keeping my BG levels stable while I'm away...or should I just enjoy my holiday and not worry about them too much? This is my first holiday abroad since being diagnosed.

Thanks!

Enjoy your holiday.

Same as here,
avoid too many bad carbs, eat the salad, eat the veg, eat the meat.
Drink diet cola, drink coffee.

Two weeks in Florida sounds good to me.

Hi Kerrie, I would say your priority is to enjoy your holiday. Yes, you can still adjust diet slightly and still have occasional treats. Depending on what type of holiday you've booked you may be fine anyway. When I was there doing the theme parks etc you'd be surprised how much walking you do which will help maintain good BG levels.

Yeah...Metformin and Statins for the diabaetes. As well as some other meds for my psoriasis and arthritis.

None of those can make you go low, so you should be fine, and can have a brilliant holiday.
Just avoid the doughnuts and the foot wide lollipops!

I agree with everyone else, enjoy yourself. I personally, am very attentive to my diabetes - avoiding certain food and drinks and doing exercise before work in the morning. When I'm on holiday I want to have a break and enjoy myself.

I hope you go to Florida for 2 weeks, the condition improved, enjoy your holiday, do not worry too much, you want to bursting point, I love to laugh luck are not too bad. Good luck!

Thanks guys! We're gonna be swimming and all sorts as well as doing the parks, so hopefully that'll help with levels. I've decided not to take my testing meter just because my nurse said I only have to test as and when I want...and I don't want to be testing and worrying myself when I'm on holiday.

Only 12 days to go!!!! :D

Have a great time. But beware hidden sugar - they tend to add to things you don't expect - baked beans are very very sweet and its in a lot of bread and cold meats - I find I run slightly higher over there. If you get a chance and are willing to pay $50 a head look up Texas De Brazil for a not to be beaten meat feast. All freshly carved in front of you and with wonderful fresh salads and cheeses. At the other end the buffets are good value and with kids are quick and simple. Can't wait to go again in December.

If it was me I'd take the meter just in case......

Better to have than to have not.....

Either way Enjoy !!!!
