Good Experience with Metformin?

I am scared to try Metformin as I have read all the bad experiences people have with it. Has anyone had good experiences?

I asked my doctor, if I get a bad tummy, will she switch me to SR metformin and she said I have to persevere for at least a month with it.

So I havent actually taken any of the ones I was prescribed 2 weeks ago yet because of my fear of nausea and diarrhoea :oops:

If you have had early problems, does it settle quickly please?
 
No problems except a decrease in hunger. Felt a bit iffy on a very odd occasion, but nothing to write home about. I think the only way you will know is to take it.

I'm the same. I have completely lost my appetite, but the only time I have a dicky tummy is if I take on an empty stomach. Apart from that, no problems at all.
 
There are probably millions and millions of people all over the world who take it. Usually, your digestive system takes a bit to adjust and then it's fine.

My suggestion is to start it when you know you have a bathroom nearby, just in case.

Try it and see-It didn't agree with me but as soon as I told my GP he prescribed the SR version which gave me no side effects whatsoever. :)
 
I've been on Metformin for 6 weeks now, also ramped up to full dose of 4x500mg per day quicker than most people do. the first couple of weeks weren't much fun, but it's OK now, apart from the occasional reminder if I eat something that I shouldn't have done :)

Try it and see - you're creating a problem for yourself on a reaction that may not ever happen.

I take the full dose of Metformin and have never had any problems with it; it's a pretty good diabetes drug in that all the indications are that it doesn't have bad side effects and the ones it does have can be dealt with. Like I said even those aren't for sure; there were no problems at all for me.

Take it and if you don't like it stop taking it. Easy!
