Prediabetes
So this week I had a blood test.
My last test was in June and my HBA1c was 49 so I was officially diagnosed as diabetic. I was gutted as I’d been pre diabetic for years.
I was given advice from my diabetic nurse, most of which I disagreed with as she was referring to the NHS Eat-well plate and sent me on my way.
I decided I really needed to “try” harder and to be fair I did need to lose some weight. So I joined my local gym and took part in various classes mainly cardio related. I also ate very low carb but good high fats and protein. Over 4/5 months I went from 11 stone down to 9 stone 5lbs. My results are in and my HBA1c has dropped to 44 so back in the pre diabetic range. Once I got into the woe I found and still find it easy. The worst part is eating out as I find everything loaded with carbs.

Well done, Tux. Keep up the hard work and moving it in the right direction.

Amazing weight loss too. I'm at the "easy" end of the scale for losing weight, as I've got a lot of it to lose, but those are some very hard earned pounds you've dropped there!

Thank you so much. The weight just fell off! I really don’t want or need to lose any more though.

Excellent news well done. To stabilise the weight loss, but keep low carb to reduce the blood sugars, upping the healthy fats can help. If you are exercising and less body fat to burn you'll need to provide enough healthy fats and protein.

I find most places will do a swap eg swap fries for veggies, swap the burger bun for extra salad. McDonald's I go for double cheeseburger with bacon, take off the bun and turn one pattie on top so not as messy
Worst places for me are cafes where everything is in bread or is cake. Unless they do an omelette I don't go in.
Steak, burgers, fish are often good choices, or dry curries

Congratulations on reducing your HbA1c result to pre-diabetic levels and losing your surplus weight in 5 months.

Independent, family-run pubs and cafes are often a better bet than the restaurant chains, when it comes to substituting salad or extra non-starchy veggies for the chips and bread on their menu.
